QQ - I’m using a VPN for security as I’m travelling in Eastern Europe. Do I connect to my ‘home’ country or the local country? If I’m connected to a Western European country will that make my signature more obvious? But if I connect to the local country does that open me up security wise? Thanks!
It doesn’t matter. And it depends on what you’re using VPN for, and what kind of security you’re referring to
Connecting to the local country will generally result in lower latency / faster speeds.
Connect to a local VPN server if you’ll be mostly accessing sites/services within the local country. Connect to a server in either your local country or the destination country for servers within a remote country. Otherwise, if you’re having latency issues, run a tracert to the destination and try to use a VPN server along the route to the destination server. Keep in mind that Internet traffic doesn’t necessarily travel in a straight line, and the best route between you and a server might zig-zag to avoid delays and congestion, and because of peering agreements.
It doesn’t matter which vpn you are using, its main purpose is to make your internet connection secure over public internet and its better if you connect vpn to your home country or your own vpn.
Vpns are really just a different end point on the Internet most people didn’t practice the security/privacy of a VPN. Booting up your VPN and logging into your Google and Netflix on the VPN kinda gives the game away.
