I’ve done some mild searching and havent found anything. Can someone give me some suggestions on what would be causing my VPN connections to be capped at 280 Mbps (up and down)?
I am using the wireguard road warrior vpn setup. I have verified that both sides have close to 1gbps up/down speeds, but continue to be lmited to 280/280 when connected to the vpn. I followed the vpn setup guide provided by opnsense. https://docs.opnsense.org/manual/how-tos/wireguard-client.html
OPNsense is running on my old gaming pc with a i7-4790K CPU @ 4.00GHz w/ 32GB RAM.
We had the same issue, and the fix for us was setting a lower MSS on the wireguard interface. I think 1380 worked well and increased the speeds substantially.
I had a setting for MSS @ 1380 in the “normalization” tab of the firewall, but did not set it on the interface. I added 1380 to the WG vpn interface and it did nothing. Even lowering to 1340 on one/both had zero impact.
Unfortunately its nothing like that. The test PC has gig speeds, and my connection from home has gig speeds tested on multiple devices. The VPN would only be using the WAN cable, which is proven
I have MSS @ 1300 in FIREWALL: SETTINGS: NORMALIZATION. There is a + button to add a new detailed setting. But do not have it set on the interface WG1. VPN speed is as expected.
