Found a link on Mullvad website with compatible routers, but am curious what you guys use and your experiences with them. Not looking for the cheapest, but I don’t do any high speed gaming or anything too crazy.
I’m surprised no one seems to know gl.inet routers. If you are looking for a home VPN router go with the FLINT model. I have flint and also a travel router from them.
They support both OpenVPN & WireGuard. Few routers support AdGuard Home (Open Source), can be used with other encrypted DNS service as well.

Feel free to ask me anything
I’ve been using an ASUS RT-AC86U with Merlin firmware and Mullvad with wireguard for years. It’s performed great all this time! I would recommend the AX86U that frostNOVA mentioned. The Asuswrt-Merlin firmware is not required but does give more customization and options to install add-ons.
Raspberry Pi with regular Debian and iptables
i’ve used both netgate and opnsense appliances and they work perfectly
Pfsense on an appliance (I recommend fanless minipc QOTOM on AliExpress)
I use ExpressVPN and just bought a gl.inet router (model SFT1200). Just realized it’s not on ExpressVPNs list of approved routers…any idea if it can be used anyway?
2nd this only issue is Mullvad servers aren’t named correctly, does yours have that issue or did you find a fix for it?
Yes it’s very simple, head over to the ExpressVPN website and download the OpenVPN configurations of your choice.
Then go to the router page, under VPN > OpenVPN Client > New Group (if the firmware is 4+) and just drag the configuration file.
