VPN or mobile wifi router when travelling?

I am using a VPN on my laptop and it works well.

I was considering also buying a mobile wifi router when I travel to connect eg to the hotel/airport wifi but I am wondering if it is worth it given that I already use a VPN on my laptop? isn’t it serving the same purpose essentially, ie to make my connection to the internet secure and encrypted?

My concerns are around security + privacy of my connections when I trade.

thank you

If you only have one device (yeah, right) then all you need is a vpn service configured on that device.

On the other hand, if you have multiple devices, like a laptop, phone, streaming device(firestick or Roku, e.g.), or tablet, then the vpn on router would be easier to manage. The GL-iNet travel routers are pretty nice. HTH

I got a GLinet Slate, and configured it with a few ProtonVPN servers for when I travel. A few main benefits: 1) if a location has a courtesy ethernet connection, you can get much stronger wifi. 2) you can have all devices that are online go through VPN without having each device connect to VPN. 3) if there is a limit on number of devices, a travel router lets you get around that.
