VPN: Google One vs Duckduckgo

Hi there folks!

I’ve got a pixel 7 pro and you all know that we get access to Google One’s VPN but the thing is I’ve been using Duckduckgo’s VPN all this time which would (at the very least) show me stats on the number of trackers it blocks.

I know VPN’s aren’t perfect but between the two, which would be better overall for some privacy? You got any details to support whatever it is you’re about to say?

I know Google knows all my fetishes but I’d like to at least think that VPN’s are doing something.

in hindsight, maybe I should’ve posted this on r/VPN

Duck Duck Go got exposed a while back for not being as private as they had people believe. :person_shrugging:

DDG was exposed for selling users data to Microsoft. They’re not as private as they claim to be.

Remember that Google wants your information to sell. I use the DDG VPN with its track blocker, and I believe it’s safer to use than Google’s VPN, which will require YOU giving GOOGLE information that is none of its business! DDG has blocked 50K tracking attempts in the last 7 days on my 1+8T. In fact, if I buy a Pixel 7 (or any Google product), I will continue to use DDG.

DDG is not falling apart. I use their tracking blocker on my OnePlus 8T, and I also search using their browser. I’m researching whether and how to use them on the Pixel 7 I just ordered. If I can’t use the DDG VPN on Pixel 7, I’ll probably return the Pixel p.d.q.

Just by the by, Google wants a considerable amount of YOUR info in order to use its VPN. Not worth it

I hear they’re really slowly falling apart. That really sucks. So amongst the two maybe I should go for Google’s VPN?

I figured, but didn’t want to assume.

Really you would want to combo these for maximum paranoia. Tor isn’t a VPN so to speak, but you could do your web browsing over Tor and run it in a tunnel provided by Mullvad so your ISP doesn’t know what you’re up to.

DDG with track blocker works in Pixel 7. I use it constantly. I occasionally switch to Google if necessary. I also use DDG email.

If you are already invested in Google Services and products it seems to be a good way to go, unless you are interested in investing for a paid, faster service.

Didn’t know you could tunnel TOR with VPNs, or at least Mullvad. I’ll dig into that more. Thanks dude.

I guess I’m gonna stay on the Google ecosystem then lol. Thanks for the help mate, appreciate it.

I’d recommend the first thing you do is enable “Private DNS” on your Pixel anyways

I agree with the other guy, this is some maximum paranoia shit. Not unjustified given the world we live in, which is again why I said I’d like to “assume” VPNs do something. It’s a “peace of mind” thing but it’s easy to fall into a rabbit hole.
Speaking of yeah I do use ublock origin, along with a bunch of others like privacy possum, decentraleyes, clearurls etc.
I stopped the 1.1.1.1 dns because it really did give me connection issues, I have no idea why I just switched back to the default.
I dual boot windows and linux, and I just got my pixel I don’t wanna root/custom ROM that shit yet
TOR is TOR.
“VPNs should be on your list but it shouldn’t be the only thing on your list” sounds better no?

Apparently it was already on, so that’s cool. Thanks for the suggestion!
