VPN for Xfinity TV (not internet)

Hi all, apologies if this has been asked. I searched as many ways as i could think and couldn’t find the issue.

I have an X1 that is connected via cable directly outside the house. I also have Xfinity internet through my own Motorola router.

Is there a way to setup a VPN for the X1? I know how to do it for the router, but the X1 doesn’t go via the router.

Greetings, u/Deckwalker! Thanks so much for taking a moment out of your busy day to leave a post on our community subreddit about your X1 box. You have definitely come to the right place for assistance.

Depending on which model of X1 box you have, there should be an internal modem that handles all the streaming for built-in apps like Netflix, Hulu, Prime Video, etc. This modem is independent of your Xfinity Internet modem, and the connection is proprietary, so all connection settings are handled by the device. Any data that is used will be added to the data being used by your internet modem, but the connection is separate.

Thanks, that’s what I thought and was afraid of. I guess that means a vpn isn’t an option.

You are welcome. Was there anything else I could assist you with?

Sounds good, enjoy your day!
