Recently bought a subscription, it’s been running smoothly and completely fine on my computer but for my phone, it’s been disconnecting every time I close the device and the fastest server takes really long to connect to and the internet speeds are extremely slow when I am connected. Is it because of my phone or just the vpn?
At least yours loaded. I have tried numerous times and it simply won’t load onto my LG v30. After being charged a subscription fee, then being charged for some nonsensical reup fee, as soon as the initial subscription expires, I’m looking elsewhere for a reliable VPN, since customer service is so ridiculous as they’re more concerned about a stupid survey than address any issues.
My service has completely stopped working. They are blocking me from posting it anywhere though.
You could probably troubleshoot this through running speed tests with the VPN connected and VPN disconnected. Compare the speed tests and draw a conclusion.
Hello, let’s talk about the main issue which is ProtonVPN disconnects when iPhone goes into auto-lock; and this only happens in the iPhone only. I have been searching this problem for about a month. It seems to be a permanent bug, but this is between the App developer and the iOS. I can promise you that there is a VPN service doesn’t get disconnected when your iPad/iPhone goes into auto-lock. ProtonVPN developers need to step up to this issue.
Regards the slow connection, I haven’t noticed that even when my i unlock my iPhone, ProtonVPN goes back and reconnect with out any speed issue.
On my phone it feels like it makes everything so much faster. Connection takes not even a second
Hello. We apologize for the inconvenience but could you please share some more details about these connection issues via the support form?
- What ProtonVPN app version are you using?
- What specific servers did not work for you?
- Did you get any error messages?
- What protocol are you connecting to? Have you tried our Smart protocol option as well as manually switching between IKEv2, WireGuard, OpenVPN (UDP), and OpenVPN (TCP) protocol within application settings and then check if the issue persists?
- Which internet connection (mobile, school, work, public etc.) are you using? Could you try using a different network?
- Are you using any anti-virus/firewall/network monitoring application? If so, for testing purposes, could you disable them temporarily to see if that helps?
In regard to the slow speed, note that we do not limit the bandwidth of your connection, so the speed may be influenced by many other factors such as your native ISP speed, location, server distance, server load, network setup, etc. We suggest connecting to nearby servers with low/acceptable server-load in order to get the most optimal speed of your connection. You can also enable our VPN Accelerator feature. Please try the guide here and let us know how it goes.
Once you’ve heard back from our support team, please confirm your ticket number, so we can also follow up on your case internally to ensure that we help you properly.
Something is going on and no one is talking. That is never good. I am looking for a new provider as well.
We’re sorry to hear this and that doesn’t sound right. Our support team is highly trained. They would be more than happy to help, but they’ll need more details to work with. Please confirm your ticket number, so we can further investigate what happened in your case.
Not sure how checking my speed will fix an application bug, but ok
We appreciate the feedback provided. Regarding the scenario that you have described, please note that this is not intended behavior, but it is a known iOS bug, i.e. on some devices, when your iPhone or iPad goes to sleep, it causes ProtonVPN to stop working.
The problem lies with iOS and is outside of our control. We’ve already reported this to Apple. For more details: https://protonvpn.com/support/sleeping-iphone-does-not-run-protonvpn/. Hope that helps clarify things.

Already went through that inanity. Not again, thank you. As I’ve stated, I’m finished.
