VPN Dedicated IP

Hey everyone, I am not sure if this is the right place to ask, but I just took advantage of a 2 year special with a vpn provider and I see they have dedicated ip addresses available for an extra fee. My question is, with dedicated ip addresses does this allow for incoming connections as well? Id like to use this for a server im hosting in my house to protect my isp ip. My goal is to set up maybe a DNS service to point to an ip for my at home server but I thought I would ask if this would work.

It depends how the VPN servers are set up, that would be a question for their technical support.

Without a static IP you can use a service like duckdns or no-ip to have a link point to your server. However it will be pointing to your direct IP.

Having a static IP through a VPN server kind of eliminates the anonymity of a VPN but it will give you a layer of security.

I would guess that when you get a dedicated IP address with your provider all the ports are directly mapped through to you, but you would have to ask your provider specifically because it could also be not the case.

But, if your provider offers it, you could just as well have a specific port forwarded through your VPN provider to your server at home and connect through that port. This will only work if you don’t need any specific port like 80 or 443, because as far as I have seen you can only get ports above 1000 to 2000, depending on the provider. Depending on the provider you can also have a different outside and inside port, which means that the port that the port on the VPN server can be a different one than the port your server at home receives the data at. With this your dynamic DNS would point to the VPN server IP address and when you connect to it via the forwarded port from the internet, you can connect to your server at home.

Yeah, as far as being anonymous I am not super worried about it with this particular use. Its more of a I want to avoid being DDOSed by giving out this dedicated IP that is separate from my ISP IP, and can be severed at any point if need be.
