I’m using an iPhone. There is a setting in Accessibility-> Touch section that allows to call a Shortcut on double tap or triple tap on the phone’s back.
I’ve set up a shortcut to trigger WireGuard VPN on double tap on the back. Calling home is now easy as cake - double tap and you’re home. Launch any selfhosted app, use the app, double tap to disconnect.
Works perfect for Bitwarden, Lubelog, Immich etc.
Why can’t you just run Wireguard and set it to automatically connect whenever you aren’t in your home SSID? Easier and better than this.
Or you can just use wireguard on-demand feature
Very cool. For Android, you can set a specific WireGuard tunnel as a quick setting tile in the notification center. Pull down, tap, tunneled.
Why you don’t create half tunel VPN? Only the local adresss in your home server will be going thru VPN, if you open any other website it will not go thru VPN.
I have tailscale on my phone connected, making accessing at home stuff easier.
I have the same but instead of use back tap I have a button in control centre
Why not just always use WireGuard?
Not OP, but I didn’t realize this was an option. Thank you!
They can. They probably just don’t want to. They might want to connect a few times to see stuff, but not 24/7.
Yes. I’ve been doing this for a long time on my iPhone. Works extremely reliabily. I’m not sure what the point of OP’s post is.
Personally, my home internet’s upstream bandwidth is just too low to pipe everything through it.
Thanks for this! This is the real LPT for me! Wow this is so easy now
Not sure about OP but I sometimes wind up on a network that blocks VPN traffic. It’s helpful to be able to switch to my Outline server in such scenarios.
Got this for a couple of weeks. The most time i’m connected to AdGuard. If I need it, I connect to WireGuard. An easier switching between VPNs would be nice.
If you want to be connected at all times when outside, yeah. Sometimes that is not the goal.
I’m using a different vpn for work. You can’t have two running at the same time.
PS the work one is set for triple tap
I have to use several tunnels on the phone. The other one is not WireGuard even.
Same. I leave my tailscale connected on my phone.
I didn’t either until somebody on Reddit pointed it out to me. I ran an automation to connect WireGuard anytime I left my home Wi-Fi. The automatic connect built into WireGuard is awesome.
