Auto renewal is a scam (which i was told was canceled by a rep but thats another story) I was charged on a card that has been expired for two years today with the receipt provided showing an incorrect card number. Customer service refused to even engage with me on the subject. I guess the guide part of this, is this; we absolutely don’t have to take stuff like that laying down, dispute it with your bank and you’ll often win, these shady companies will learn eventually.
I am having the exact issue with them right now.
Generally, consumers would expect that a refund policy applies to each transaction or renewal individually. And what they do is extremely scummy.
I’ll get legal advice from my lawyer relatives.
‘’ Many jurisdictions have laws to protect consumers against unfair contract terms and deceptive business practices. These laws often override unfair terms in a contract, even if the consumer has agreed to them. If a term is found to be unjustly limiting consumer rights, it may not be enforceable. ‘’
Nord just lost the ability to offer services in Egypt cos their protocols suck. Won’t refund me on a recently renewed subscription despite not being able to provide the service. Terrible customer service.
Nord are such scumbags when it comes to renewals it’s insane. On their own website they won’t even tell you when they’ll charge your auto renewal so you can’t set a calendar reminder to cancel it. From their own website “for all other plans, the charge will be made at least 14 days in advance of the auto-renewal date”. There is no legitimate business purpose for this other than charging people money they don’t intend to spend and then refusing to give it back.
During lockdown I had Nord upgrade me from a monthly plan to an annual plan and charge me hundreds of dollars out of nowhere. It took a full day of dealing with customer service and using every trick in the book but eventually they agreed to refund me in full but even that was a lie. They tacked on some stupid currency conversion charge since my bank account isn’t in USD. They flat out refused to refund that part in spite of what they had promised. I was essentially told to pound sand and there was nothing I could do about it.
They’re a predatory company who will lie, cheat, and steal to get your money.
Yeah I wanted to cancel prior to the trial period, and I had to go through support.

Could you send me the ticket ID you received after reaching them?

This has been discussed more than once – it’s not Nord; it’s your bank/payment provider.
Chargeback through your card, or if the payment was debit file a dispute with your bank, you’ll get your money back and Nord will get really salty about it and not let you sign in anymore.
Chargeback. The issuing bank will claw it back without dealing with the merchant. This is the practice of a failing business they’ll never keep customers like this. Also just about every VPN on the market will do what they do without the shady scams and fine print., they’ll usually do it better too.
If you go to your account page on the site you see all info you need, including when the renewal is planned combined with the option to disable the auto renewal. It was also mentioned in your first email when you subscribed. At least this is the case for EU users as myself.
Support had canceled it a long time ago (far beyond a year) but they said it got switched on at some point afterwards because it’s the “default” if they already took your money you’re better off going through your bank so they have to pay chargeback fees and transaction fees for their “mistakes”
My bank isn’t the one who sent me a receipt with the wrong card number, That’s been canceled for over a year.
I thank you for the offer, but It’s not worth looking into from your end if you’re affiliated with Nord in any way, my bank has already clawed back the money that was improperly charged, this is just a guide so others know that they can simply go over Nord’s head when they try to take your money through their stupid renewal policies.
I just gave the account to a mate in a different company cos the money doesn’t matter to me. It is the principal that pissed me off more than anything
That isn’t the case in Canada and the thing is they don’t do what most companies do and bill you for the service on your renewal date. They bill you 14+ days in advance of your renewal date. There is absolutely no legitimate business reason for doing this other than catching people out and charging them for a subscription they intended to cancel.
Edit: Just went and checked my account and nowhere does it indicate a date where the payment will be processed, it only shows a renewal date. They don’t even have a disclaimer on the billing page stating that payments will be processed in advance of your renewal date. You have to go searching on a different part of the site to glean this information.
That is actually a valid cause for a chargeback or a dispute with your bank in Canada. The rep I spoke to said there were several independent reasons why I could go through with clawing my money back from these clowns, and among those was the fact that they billed before the renewal date. Another one was that because they refuse to engage with you on the issue, they have effectively become an unresponsive merchant. The Nord customer animosity team likes to say that you absolutely will not get a refund, but the beautiful part is, it’s not their money; so they can eat shit and pay chargeback fees.
