UCSD MacBook Users! (wifi disconnects)

Does your wifi (on campus) randomly disconnect???

Yes for me - I’ve been experiencing this for the past few months

Hello! Please contact us via one of the methods listed on resnet.ucsd.edu and we’d be happy to assist in resolving this. We have a bunch of tools that can look at the backend and see what’s going on. Our apologies for the inconvenience!

This happened to me all of last year lol. Wi-Fi would just randomly disconnect and couldn’t reconnect for a while

I use an intel mac with no issues

Edit: lol jk I can’t fucking connect anymore

I used to have this issue, it was because I had the ucsd VPN, I think it’s called Cisco connect. Try uninstalling that and see if ur problem is fixed.

Search routerlogin.net and it redirects you to the Wifi login

hi! i think this is an issue for ALL macbook users. has been this way ever since i came to ucsd

same here, like sure it would disconnect during online exams and stuff which is whatever,
but when it disconnects when i’m watching netflix…. that’s crossing a line :sob:

sorry if this sounds dumb, but how would i do that? all ik is that i connected my wifi to resent protected (or guest, but same issue with that)

tru but this isn’t rlly a wifi quality issue (as it stays connected just fine on my iphone)

I did submit a ticket months ago and an agent kept helping me to debug for months but the problem is still there🥲

Our apologies, while we have seen some MacBook users have issues it does not seem to be all, hence why it really helps to reach out so we can better identify the pattern and resolve the issue. The reason I say it’s not all is that many of our employees are students who live on campus and have MacBooks without any issues.

When we do see MacBook issues, the cause varies quite a bit. Often times we’ve resolved MacBook issues permanently by uninstalling certain antivirus applications that were causing the issue, other times it’s been a full network setting reset that resolved it, but it really does vary a lot and isn’t really one size fits all. Without reports it’s really hard to troubleshoot this sort of thing, as a disconnect looks basically the same as if you just turned your computer off, and even then actually resolving the issue usually involves the MacBook itself.

If you didn’t install the VPN you wouldn’t have it installed. Plus I think that issue was fixed?

It reroutes you to the Wi-Fi’s login page and helps you re-connect easily

I’m so sorry to hear that :frowning: Would you mind sending me the ticket number?

CS1233322 and CS1023750

make sure to update here if it gets fixed!

Thank you, I’ll be taking a look. Do you have any antivirus software installed? We’ve seen some antivirus softwares result in similar behavior on other devices, so it may be worth trying to uninstall that if that’s the case.

After months my problem has been fixed by me removing everything on my Mac that have the ability to alter the network (VPNs, shadowsocks, V2Ray etc) and the campus Wi-Fi is not dropping me anymore
