Hi, I have been trying to watch twitch streams for a few days but whenever I want to watch it buffers CONSTANTLY! Like every 3 seconds. I do not have an option to change the quality but my internet speed is 300mbs down and I can stream 4k video on youtube with no buffering issues. I have tried from both Mac, Windows, and iOS but they all constantly buffer.
Twitch has been unusable for me for the last two weeks in Australia. I can’t even stream on ‘low’ without buffering when I used to be able to stream 2-3 source channels at the same time.
We are performing maintenance on a POP that contains connections to Charter. This sort of maintenance is common and we have plenty of additional capacity to Charter in other POPs. The ETA for bringing the POP back into production is tomorrow or Friday.
Yea im having problems with buffering right now. My internet is good as usual and other sites are working without a problem.
Both OP and Comments with same problem. Check in with your ISP to find out if you get rerouted through a slow line or “throttled” to Twitch. Also try with a VPN to see if it solves the problem. If a VPN fixes the problem consider sending a complaint to the ISP.
(edit added how to check routes, the longer route the more it can affect your experience)
To check route to twitch.tv on Windows:
Windows + R and type cmd. Click enter. Type in the window: tracert twitch.tv
Repeat the steps above with an extra window and try with tracert youtube.com
Check where it “splits up” and see how many jumps it makes and how long it takes.
If Twitch.tv is buffering often you will see that you will get a long response (latency) and properly a longer route.
How can you fix this ?
Try changing DNS to Googles DNS if you already aren’t. Or try getting a VPN and test by watching a stream if it fixes the problem.
I just came to do some research on this as well. I have 60mbps down, and I am having buffer issues. I don’t know if stream quality has anything to do with the lag, but I run streams on High. It buffers to over 20 seconds, but then it drops down to 0 second buffer again. Really weird. I’ve disabled some Chrome Twitch extensions in hopes that would fix the issue, but it has no effect on it.
same problem for me… the issue just started this morning.
Same thing as everyone else. Buffering constantly.
I had this problem with Rogers ( Canadian ISP ) then I switched to bell ( another Canadian ISP ) and everything worked fine. Not sure why, but it did.
My viewers reports the same (I am not partnered)…I use a modest 1800 bitrate for 720p for them and nobody can watch because it’s buffering every 5-10 seconds. They’re from the same region as me, quebec canada.
Really weird I never have buffer issues but now on source it always buffers yet high and below is perfect
Having the same issue as for now. Streams are fine during daytime (GMT+1) but at night it’s constant buffering and timing me out. This wasn’t a problem before. I’m also pretty sure it’s not my end as i recently upgraded my Internet to fiber. This usually is also a problem when watching streamers that isn’t subbed as I can’t change the quality of the stream pokes Twitch
Fill this form out and submit. I wonder if it’s an ISP thing or Twitch its self.
It just started happening to me today. I have charter. I can’t watch any twitch streams at source without constant buffering. I’ve never used other live streaming sites before but I just had youtube live at source, a hitbox stream at source, two twitch streams on medium, and netflix playing all at the same time fine. Obviously something happened today.
I have been having the same issue and I’m in MA. Both watching on the computer and phone app having similar buffering issues.
Last 7 days for me - same stuff.
bump. this issue still occurs…
Have you tried to fix your ports?
There’s a guide flowing around in this sub. Unfortunately i’m on mobile and am pretty unable to link it.
I have been watching twitch on xbox with source quality without any problem. However since couple days ago it keeps buffering inevery few seconds, i tried to reatart my router, tried all the settings, still couldnt fix it. I am in Hong Kong by the way. Please help!!
I feel the same way. Two weeks is too long.
