The MacOS app has been updated recently and I can’t for the life of me figure out how to access the preferences any more. When I click on the TunnelBear icon in the menubar it shows the map and I can connect to a server, but that’s it. There’s no longer a gear icon to access settings. Option-click has no effect. I reinstalled the app and no changes. It looks exactly like the marketing image on the website here: TunnelBear for macOS. I can’t even quit TunnelBear; I now have to do this through Activity Monitor.
Rawr! We updated our macOS app a while back to align more closely with Apples app guidelines. You can access your preferences from the menu bar, or the shortcut is to press the Command and , keys at the same time while the TunnelBear app is open.
If you’re already on Sequoia OS, go to:
System Settings > General > Login Items & Extensions > Network Extensions. Find there TunnelBear and switch it on
I found the solution. When you click on the TunnelBear icon, the top bar (Menu Bar) displays ‘TunnelBear,’ and then options to log in or log out of your account appear.
Opinion moderation - the criteria listed are niche concerns where better becomes very much a matter of goals and frankly opinion. If you’re going to make this claim, better, then TunnelBear should be included in the comparison to at least show how it fails this arbitrary criteria.
I use a variety of VPNs on a daily basis and TunnelBear is a perfectly adequate solution for someone that wants a macOS tool to shuttle your bits across the globe. If my goal was world domination and hatching a nefarious plot I would probably not choose TunnelBear.
Ah yeah CMD + , works when the map is open. Thank you. However, I still can’t find a way to quit TunnelBear except via Activity Monitor.
You can access your preferences from the menu bar
Can you provide a bit more info about this? As mentioned, clicking the TunnelBear icon in the menubar just brings up the map and server list, but there’s no icon/button to access preferences. Previously, there was a gear icon.
Thanks! That was stupid hard to find, and the tunnel bear app keep pointing to Privacy & Security in System Settings which is *not* where it can be set.
