If i remove the chinese sim card, it then works. Im talking about the international version of tiktok btw. This is the only app like this.
What can I do to manually switch between using my sim card and making calls and using tiktok. I dont wanna remove the sim card every time so is there a software solution to this where I can turn on and off my sim card to use tiktok etc? Am on a samsung phone fyi.

Same problem. The solution is to get a foreign sim card (even HK/TW will do). Even if you no longer have a plan/uses that foreign SIM, just by switching to it you can then open your vpn/TikTok without problems. Obviously, since you’re on a no plan foreign SIM you’ll need to be connected to a local wifi which means no TikTok on the go.
Basically TikTok can work out that you’re in China regardless of the vpn. The failure is in the SIM card. That’s why you can simply log in to TikTok on your computer at TikTok.com (no SIM card obviously) or you can log in on an iPad which is wifi only (no SIM card) or your phone (but only with no SIM card).

You’ll probably have to flip your VPN on because TikTok and 抖 (Douyin), though of the same owner have completely different platforms and databases. And of course TikTok like many Western socials is blocked and banned in China.

Yes, unfortunately this is by design on TikTok’s part. Since ByteDance is a Chinese company, they want to be extra careful on making it difficult for uncensored TikTok content to pass through the GFW.
what do you mean turn it off? im using regular wifi and a vpn when connecting to foreign apps. Doesnt matter what im connected to, if the phone has a chinese sim card in it, tiktok doesnt work.
My phone is dual sim card so what do u mean by this? I have my own countries sim card and my chinese sim card. How can i put it together so that tiktok works no matter what? Wdym exactly by switching to a sim card? can I alternate between which sim card im using despite both being in the phone?

I mean to turn off the sim that is causing the issue, instead of taking it out physically. Under settings you can do that and see if it makes a difference.
Put your foreign sim card into your phone as Sim 2 (Sim 1 is whatever Chinese carrier). In settings, switch to Sim 2 in your mobile networks.

Now your phone doesn’t “see” your Chinese Sim 1 and you can now open up your vpn/TikTok – with the data coming via your wifi network. This is why I said you cannot do this on the go since you now no longer have any mobile data with your Sim 2 active. Also, once you’re done with TikTok, you have to switch back to Sim 1 to regain your mobile network functions.
