Tried to cancel during free trial - that was confirmed, but have been charged anyway

So I signed up for the free trial of PureVPN and almost immediately cancelled my subscription as I wanted to avoid the recurring billing charges.

I went through the subscription cancellation procedure on the website, which asked me several times to confirm that I wanted to cancel and - eventually - gave me a confirmation that this had been done.

Roll forward 7 days and my PayPal has been charged for an annual subscription which I have endlesssly tried to cancel and request a refund, however when I go through the refund steps on the website I simply get an error stating ‘an error has occurred’ and no refund is generated. I have tried Chrome, Edge and Brave all of which give the same error.

Live Chat have now cancelled my subscription, but I’ve not heard anything from anyone about a refund and I’m now unable to repeat the ‘request a refund process’ on the website; I’m guessing this is because my subscription is marked as cancelled.

How do I go about getting any kind of response from PureVPN in terms of receiving the refund I have requested?

This has been refunded now - fair play, that was a very quick turnaround, even if I did have to reach out for support rather than being able to go through the website options.

I am also trying to cancel the trial. It says there’s live chat 24/7 but nothing happens when I click the button. I created a ticket and haven’t heard back. There’s no cancel button either, only more ways to pay for more things.
