Testing Slate ax Before Travel

A little unclear if your question is asking about using Tailscale as a VPN (exit node) backup or simply as a backup method of accessing the admin panel.

It doest have one since its not with a carrier i just bought it by itself

Most common one are supported so its not that bad for me

I have a Brume 2 at home (server) and travel with a pocket router. I use WireGuard for now but need a back up as you suggested.

If I put Tailscale as an exit node on the Brume 2, can I simply just reconfig my travel router whilst abroad? In this scenario I do not have physical access to the Brume 2.

Or do I need a separate Brume 2 running only Tailscale?

You can’t run a Tailscale exit node at the same time as a WireGuard server on the same device. You need a separate device (Raspberry Pi recommended, but you could use a Brume 2).

Thanks for clarifying! Once the 2 separate devices are setup, do I simply reconfigure the travel router as per thewirednomad instructions?

Yes, just disable the VPN client and connect to the custom exit node in the Tailscale menu.

Why do you suggest Raspberry Pi over the Brume for Tailscale?

Because GL.iNet does not support hosting of Tailscale exit nodes. It’s a “hack” to get it to work. And if you ever upgrade the firmware, you have to rerun all the commands to set it up.
