Suspicious programs running on my pc

Hello everyone!

Once I pirated a game (which I deeply regret) in which windows defender told me there was a trojan virus. So i made a thorough scan for virus but didn’t find any. However, when I open the task manager I find some supsicious looking programs named: 1. AppHelperCap, 2. SECOMNService.exe and lastly, 3. SysInfoCap which all were thought to be trojan viruses according to some sites. But neither am I sure how to remove them, nor can I tell for sure if they are indeed viruses. Can you guys please help me out! Thanks in advance

With virustotal.com you can submit any to be scanned with several antivirus engines. Check those files out

try running avira antivirus available here: https://www.avira.com/en/free-antivirus-windows

In the task manager right click those processes the click open file location. This reveal or indicate which program they are related to. Another idea is right click the files then select properties then detials/version tab you might get to know the company behind them

Use your favorite flavor of antivirus and run a scan.

The same here. It appears to be an HP HD Audio driver process. It uses constantly around 20% of the i7 Gen11 CPU. I have tried to reinstall the driver from the HP Support page but nothing changed.

Thanks for the tip, I scanned all the files there and none seemed to contain virus which seems promising, but does the site’s capabilities exceed avast prenium in terms of ability to detect viruses? Cause I’ve been using avast and it hasn’t picked up anything either, but anyway, I should be fine now don’t you think?

I’m currently using avast prenium, but do you think that the free version can detect something that goes undetected by the seemingly better antivirus program?

Wow thanks a lot, I checked the properties and it turned out that the company behind the programs were mostly HP, and one from “Sound Research, Corp…” which sounds legit. Now I can finally stop being paranoid about these weird programs. Thanks once again buddy

Thing is that I’ve already done it, and it turns out that it probably wasn’t a virus after all, but thanks for the reply!

As the system gets older it’s a far better option to go directly to the manufacturers website for drivers. Even when new HPs drivers are old

VirusTotal scans the file with 70 different commercially available antivirus tools.

Each antivirus company has a team that looks at newly discovered threats, classifies how big a threat, and determines how to detect it. Some teams will find threats before others. There may also be delays in adding the signature to any given detection list.

Each one also has it’s own way of preventing false positives. Further complicating if a given antivirus will detect a given malware.

So, in summary, yes, it is a step above and beyond running a single local antivirus on your own machine.

Avast isn’t better. The free Acura is one of the best antivirus’ out there. It’s worth a shot

Ok, ty, I’ll try it out to prevent future virus infections, turns out my current ones were only false alarms!
