I’ve used the VPN on Netflix and the speed reduction is mad. I get just 0.738 Mbps on an Australian server (Perth kings park) compared to my broadband speed of 62.65 Mbps. America is better at around 16 but it’s still crap!!? I’m on wireguard protocol. Cant even stream 1080p in Australia!!
Have you tried port forwarding or using other connection types like wireguard or just tcp and different port settings?
Also do you have government speech circumvent on or off that also adds bandwith but may be needed in other countries.
Have you updated the software you are using to play the video stream. tv software that comes with most tvs is the worst it usually is outdated by the time consumers buy the tv and sometimes cannot be updated. Have you looked under your netflix account and maybe switch video formats, hd, sd, 4k and see what looks best. Make sure you are not running other internet bandwidth hungry apps like torrenting or windows software updates or hardware like gaming consoles while you are streaming.
Also you may want to do a power cycle on your modem/router once a month. its amazing what thats simple thing does.
The processor on your TV is not fast enough to give you the speeds that you need. You will need a third party Android player such as fire Stick, Android device, etc
Which device ? if its a TV or fire tv stick DONT USE OVPN its super heavy for these sad cpus.
Even wireguard can only do on a good day of my tv do 65-75 mbit on my TV ( i got a 250mbit connection , all other devices max my speed out at windscribe )
Why is everyone just ignoring me and downvoting? This is a serious problem and I don’t know how to fix it
I used windscribe for years and just accepted buffering iplayer feeds even though I have 1gb internet. Switched to nordvpn yesterday and no more buffering! Don’t know why I’ve put up with it for so long…
Also I get good speeds on my pc? Is it something to do with the Netflix app on Google TV? Thinking of refunding rn and getting Surfshark instead
I’ve done all that you said and my WiFi is fast enough to play it. I can stream 4K without the VPN but can’t even get 1080p in some countries with the VPN enabled. I’ve changed protocols to stealth, WireGuard, everything, it’s still slow!
Android player such as fire Stick
they can do max 65-75 mbit even on wireguard
they kinda suck too.
Yeah thought about just switching to Nord or Surfshark as their speeds are great
Thinking of refunding rn and getting Surfshark instead
Wont fix it , its the devices cpu , VPN encryption needs a good CPU , try wireguard / ikev on your TV it will maybe improve it but dont expect wonders its a Terrible slow CPU.
I would recommend a 3rd party device to attach to the tv or instead of using the tvs built in app to watch netflix.
There are a lot of devices out there just make sure whatever you get that it supports windscribe on it or you night need to have windscribe setup on your router itself if your router supports windscribe.
I have a 2 year old vizio tv with built in streaming apps that can not be updated and some do not work at all.
I use a router that supports windscribe and open dns with a cheap Roku express plugged into my vizio tv the Roku express is basic and does not have a lot of features but it works good with netflix, hulu, and spectrum tv app.
I might switch to a generic android rooted box os 12+ 4k later with a usb keyboard remote
I don’t disagree that the speeds are not tremendous. But they are far better than the processor inside of any TV. It will allow someone to stream 1080p at least. Using my 4K ONN box, I regularly get speeds of 125 and 150.
I have a TCL C845K with a Pentonic 700 chip inside so it’s probably quite slow. I’ll try messing around with it tonight, as well as the PC but looks like my hopes of 4K Netflix are out the window! Also 5 downvotes, that’s a record!
Yeah I would plug my pc into it and just play it on there but it isn’t very happy on there either, or I think It could be that Netflix doesn’t allow 1080p on PC because of piracy issues
Think I’m just gonna refund tbh.i don’t really care about the privacy I just want fast servers that’ll unblock netflix, so Surfshark it is. Change my mind
Ok I’ve found the problem. It works great on my phone but for some reason on my TV and my win11 PC it is much slower, especially on the TV. In theory the PC should have the best as it’s ethernet but it’s not? The software is up to date and no matter what settings I chose it’s the same. Odd!
Hmm the cpu on my fire TV “TV” is actually better than the sticks , my TV cpu is comparable to the cube which blows all the sticks away.
But that’s likely the exception in most cases TV hardware suck
Thinking of getting Surfshark. So it’s not just me. Thank you! Thought I was going mad!!
Netflix only allow higher res in their app or Microsoft edge I think.
