Stuck on "Authenticating" when connecting to VPN

Hey all,

I have been stuck on this problem for a bit and wanted to see if anyone can throw me a suggestion.

Whenever a remote user resets their password for their account, it will allow it to update just fine but once they try the new password, it will get stuck on “Authenticating”.

If we reset their password manually in AD (LDAP integrated), they seem to be fine with the new password.

Any idea what could be causing this? I have a case open with SonicWall right now but all they are suggesting is that we use LDAPS and bind it to a certificate. Which is fine and going to implement that too but not sure what that has to do with the user authenticating with their new password.

Thanks

Sslvpn or netextender? Delete the profile and reconnect

Someone else beat me too it - try on a new profile. If not that, at least exit netextender and re-launch it.

Sometimes I have to end the application or restart the service. Try that or the above. Let us know

Thank you all for the suggestions. I will try a new profile.

A bit of a long shot, but when they reset their own password, check if it is setting the AD user to “force user to change password on next login” option.

For instance if you were to reset someone’s password in AD, this would usually be checked by default and you’d have to uncheck it. If they are resetting their password remotely, it shouldn’t be then forcing them to reset it again on next login, but if it were, that would probably explain the issue.

Test it by (a) have the remote user reset their password, then you attempt to login to a workstation on premise with the new password and see if it then asks you to change your password.

Just a far off hunch in case none of the other suggestions here help.

Sorry if this is a noob question but isn’t NetExtender a SSLVPN connection?

Some clients use GVC and some use NetExtender.

It is, but different clients. Netextender has been the most solid. For us anyway.

I think he meant SonicWall Mobile Connect or NetExtender. They both use the SSLVPN service, but they are different clients.
