What makes you think that using public wifi makes the information on your phone available to anyone?
It does not.
If you google the subject, note that the only people still stoking these fears are companies that profit from privacy software/VPN services.

Ugh…sorry. it started out I just wanted to not use as much data when I wasn’t in my home wifi. That lead me to public wi-fi, which lead me to “not sure how safe that is”. That lead me to seeing somewhere that a VPN was what I needed. That lead me to asking on another subreddit for a good VPN. And THAT lead me to trying to figure out how to create my own after someone suggested it on said subreddit. That lead to my attempting to kill you…I’m sorry…hehe
