EDIT: SOLVED!
Apparently there was smart queue rule limiting my downloads to 48Mbps. The funny thing is I never created any rule under Smart Queue and would never had thought of looking in the smart queue section.
Posting here because I don’t know what else to check and need some help. I have spectrum internet and usually get around 400Mbps - 450Mbps. My FWG runs internet speeds every night and reports about the same, if I run a test from the FWG app it shows about 400Mbps consistently, however when I run the speed test from any device on my network I barely get 40Mbps.
I’ve tried rebooting the FWG and changed cable. Also powered down all networking equipment and modem. I get the same speed issues no matter if I’m on WiFi, wired onto a switch, or directly into the FWG.
The problem started yesterday, but there were no changes to any network settings. Any ideas as to what I can test to pin point the issue?
Sorry if that looks obvious. Is the speed within the LAN tested normal, and the speed test server connected by the other devices is working good as well?
Ref: LAN Speed Test can be found here: https://help.firewalla.com/hc/en-us/articles/4408013495059-Web-Interfaces-for-Firewalla
You can’t compare apples to oranges. As you need to ensure you’re using the same speed test servers as a starting point. The one selected by the app, and the ones used by speedtest.net may not be the same.
As the IPs of the speedtest servers aren’t shown there’s no way to completely ensure that you’re using the same one, although you can match the domain. This’ll be the closest you get. Also keep in mind that some test platforms report/calculate speeds differently. Even internal to the FW. The below screenshot is from my M1 Mac w/ 10gbe to a 10gbe switch to my FWG+.

Also, if you’re running a VPN client connection to a VPN provider, you’ll likely see a hit to devices that are using the VPN. IE I’ll get speed tests from my FWG+ WAN at 1.3-1.4gbps, but my devices may only hit 650mbps because of the VPN. And it was a lot lower when I was using ovpn before switching to wg. But then getting speedtest became even harder as the VPN exit/server and speedtest servers may not be located near each other.
But what have you done to ensure it’s not the FW, and isn’t your ISP or something upstream of the FW.
I’ll give it a try; that’s the only scenario I haven’t tried yet.
EDIT:
The internal network speed test using http://fire.walla:8833/ss/ returns 1Gbps for up and down speeds.
- Laptop connected directly to modem gets the expected ~450Mbps.
- Placed Orbi router in router mode and connected it directly to modem, bypassing FWG
2.1 Laptop directly connected to Orbi gets the expected ~460Mbps
2.2 Laptop connected to Orbi wirelessly gets the expected ~460Mbps
2.3 Network switch connected to Orbi, laptop connected directly to switch gets the expected ~460Mbps
- FWG connected to modem
3.1 Testing speed from FWG to the internet using the Firewalla app returns the expected ~450Mbps
3.2 laptop connected directly to FWG using the same cables as 2.1 above gets only ~40Mbps
Clearly the issue is the Firewalla
Yup…did a reflash yesterday and still the problem persist. Will deal with FW support next.
