Hi there! New here, just bought my first NAS with unRAID!
I’ve been reading a lot about NAS and unraid, and one Major question has came to mind. I Guess for quite some apps (such as nextcould) I Will need remote access to get the full potential of the NAS. I’ve seen a video on setting up a reverse Proxy with letsencryt that requieres fowarding ports 80 and 443, which I believe my internet provider router does not allow.
My question would be, I have NordVPN paid, is it also secure to use that to protect my NAS when exposing apps such as Sonarr or NextCloud? If so, is there any good tutorial on how to achieve that? Any other recomendations if I can not foward ports 80 and 443?
Not sure about VPN, but I’ve set up Cloudflare Tunnels to my services before without the need for a reverse proxy. Easy to setup and limits access to services, it just requires the purchase of a domain (I paid $3 for a year through Namecheap)
Thanks! And if I have a custom domain, using Cloudflare Will secure all of my NAS → internet connections? Also, is Cloudflare free? Sorry if its a stupid question, I’m quite new to all this stuff and I don’t want to mess anything up
For security, I have my tunnel whitelisted with only my email address, and it sends a OTP to my email, so any user would need to know my email address and also access it to retrieve the code. You could repeat this for your other users’ emails, require certain IPs, countries, etc. And yes, Cloudflare is free! I’d recommend searching YouTube for SpaceInvaderOne’s tutorial on Cloudflare Tunnels
Don’t you need a domain for the tunnels tho? So it’s technically like $10 a year right? The tunnels are technically free but you need domain so you can make subdomains for them.
