I have a Windows 11 laptop and the NordVPN desktop application. I have tried multiple servers including P2P servers and the download speeds just hover between 15kb/s and 40kb/s. When I turn off the VPN my download speeds are normal. Do I have to do anything special to NordVPN or qBittorrent settings to make this work properly? Any settings I need to change in my router???
NordVPN isn’t good for torrenting since they don’t support port forwarding.
Use a better VPN.
I can get a few megabytes a second using Nord. I usually am on a regular server but the P2P servers I’ve tried have worked fine. Windows 10.
I use the proxy settings in qbittorrent to connect to nordvpn and it works great for me
I also use regular servers with NordVPN and there are no speed issues for good, healthy torrents. However, the port forwarding issue might have an impact on torrents with few seeds if they also have closed ports.
My connection status is green when using a proxy connecting to nordvpn, and I have no speed issues
I have no trouble maxing out my 100/100 mbps line when using a proxy connection to nord
Pick one and then google “ port forward” and see if it supports it. If it does, its worth trying. I know AirVPN and TorGuard both do, for example.
I use Astrill, but there are plenty that work well with torrenting.
Proxies don’t encrypt your data so while peers can’t get your IP address, your ISP can see what you’re doing.
A proxy might not encrypt your data if it’s only acting as a forwarding device, but a regular VPN service absolutely WILL encrypt your data, including NordVPN.
One year later… Lol
Nord does encryption on the VPN but they also log you when they say they don’t. They have worked with gov authorities all over the globe. Avoid.
Do you have a source for that claim? I can’t find anything with a cursory glance, and they’ve been independently audited multiple times over the years.
