ProtonVPN try’s to connect forever and then fails. Tried restarting phone and uninstalling then reinstalling app, nothing changes. Any ideas?
Do you have the same behavior on WLAN and LTE?
Did you try with Smart Protocol off and manually choosing OpenVPN (TCP and/or UDP), IKEv2 and WireGuard?
I had the same problem, with WireGuard protocol specifically.
After trying a lot of things I finally erased the VPN config directly from the iOS VPN settings submenu. After that I reopened ProtonVPN and it asked to create the config again, solving the problem.
Hope it helps! (Support didn’t have a clue when I asked for help, even when they got access to the app and WireGuard logs…)
Same issue on android. Figured out that my phone has an IPv6 address. On another phone who can connect to the sale server flawlessly, it has a IPv4 address.
Go to settings and change protocol to wire guard
Going to settings and changing it to wire guard and then editing your profile with smart protocol did it for me!
Switching to wire guard fixed it. don’t know how it got changed.
How did you do this please?
- Enter to iOS settings and enter to “VPN”.
- One by one, enter to each ProtonVPN setting (and others if you have them), yap on the info button and choose delete.
- After deleting everything go and reopen ProtonVPN, it will ask you to grant it permissions, accept it.

Only setting to wireguard helps, but thanks anyway.
