I can’t use the ProtonVPN app on my arch machine anymore. I launch the app using protonvpn-app. I have two issues with the app:
- I can’t see the button for Secure Core
- When I launch the app, I can’t interact with it and it just hangs. On the terminal I get this error message. Note that to exit the app I have to use
Cntrl + C.
Since I recently re-installed arch on my system, I found that the package for ProtonVPN changed from protonvpn-gui to proton-vpn-gtk-app. Moreover, the archwiki also suggests the new package and I can’t find the older package on the internet. Maybe that’s the source of the issue, but I don’t know. Any ideas as to how I can fix this?
#Update: It seems like the issue has been fixed in the latest update
I have issues with all Arch versions of ProtonVPN previously but I use the flatpak version and not had any issues
This is a bit vague but when I used to use it there was a python dependency that wasn’t registered to it. Data sets i think. You can configure it through wire guard though so I stopped using the app
Just download the configuration files and import them in NetworkManager.
It’s dead easy and works every time.
Since the app you are using is from the AUR, I would ask the package maintainer this question.
I just install the protonvpn vpn files and use openvpn and networkmanager and it works perfectly
Would I be able to select the countries and secure core if I go that route?
I’m having these issues with the new package. That’s the issue
Ensure to install flatpak and then install ProtonVPN
Yes, you can use secure core. Just make sure to download the wireguard secure core profiles for each of the countries you want to use.
After you import them, you can switch country straight from your system tray.
From what I can see on the internet and ProtonVPN’s website, each server has a separate config file and I will have to create VPN connections for all the server that I use. Is that correct? I was looking for a solution which would let me choose the server dynamically without needing me to set everything in advance. The older app used to work flawlessly but idk why that was discontinued
