Does anyone have any experience with jittery Remote Desktop sessions (Windows RDP) on the free Proton VPN that were resolved when going to the paid plan?
Currently, RDP is fairly smooth on PIA VPN (any US city). When I use the free Proton VPN (also same US City), it’s very laggy and jerky, pretty much unusable. I have tested and compared about 50 times, and tried different US server locations, too. The actual download speeds are comparable with Speedtest.net and speed.cloudlfare.com , but webpages do subjectively seem to load slightly slower.
Of note, Brave browser shows high jitter in the 50-60ms range on https://packetlosstest.com/, but is very good in the 1-3 ms range on Brave (guest), Chrome, and Edge on both Proton free and PIA.
In the end, I don’t care about the numbers. I just want to make sure that RDP, etc. is usable on a paid Proton VPN plan.
