Name all open source VPN providers (like Proton, iVPN etc)
IVPN,Protonvpn, mullvad, windscribe(desktop only atm),Riseup,Orbot(vpn-like but uses tor)
Is that even possible? Even if they publish their back end source code, there’s no way to verify they’re actually running that code.
ProtonVPN is probably the only one you can trust. Proton may not be that trustworthy considering the fbi honeypot stuff but it’s still better than the other ones out there.
Open Source VPN protocols are LEAP, Bitmask, but best of all Wireguard.
Pick Mullvad or ProtonVPN, but best to use tor network.
I use OpenVPN with TorGuard. Seems to work great. Anyone disagree it’s a good service?
Yeah right?! Thats also what bothers me. Thats why i am interested in decentralized VPNs like Sentinel.co
Well as you say… fbi honeypot…
I say Ivpn is pretty good for relatively high threat model people
Windscribe has been open source since 2 weeks
Those are neat, but the fact that any random person can run a node and monitor my traffic coming out is a bit troubling.
The core of it is to use the internet you have to trust some providers, otherwise the only option is to shut off your internet and go without it.
I’m not sure how much difference the question of whether the server code is open source should make to a privacy enthusiast: if you trust the company, then you can trust it even if it uses closed source server code; and if you don’t trust it, then the server code being open source isn’t going to help you much.
The only real case in which I can see a difference between open and closed source server code is when a trusted company uses closed source code provided by a different entity, which it can’t inspect.
Only the client, just as all othe VPNs. Only riseup has the server code published
That review is using a pretty old version the client, just FYI. They are up to v2.02 Build 10 now
