I would use Wireguard, though there could be a reason to use OpenVPN I’m not aware of. Wireguard is smaller and faster.
Assuming Firewalla is your router, this would be easy to set up and should work: https://help.firewalla.com/hc/en-us/articles/1500004087521-WireGuard-VPN-Server-
Doing it this way, when you are at school and connect, it will essentially work like you are back at your home.
Since you already have Surfshark, you could also just get their app for each device and try to use that but it’s more likely to be blocked than connecting to your home. This wouldn’t involve the Purple at all. You’d be connecting from the school to whatever Surfshark server you pick.
To get thru restrictive firewalls I use openvpn on tcp port 443 this way it mostly appears as https traffic. Hope it helps. Good luck.
question - do you not have a ‘data plan’ with your mobile device? that should then connect to the mobile provider’s network, bypassing the school network all together.
You could (but I wouldn’t) tether your phone to your pc.
the firewall and other network security is in place for a reason, including legislation, as well as departmental requirements. bypassing it by punching a hole with a vpn could end up pretty badly for you. you may also find that there is an ‘acceptable use policy’ in force.
Host a VPN server off your Firewalla with OpenVpn. I recommend downloading OpenVPN at home before connecting to the school network. It’s very simple to setup on firewalla, simply create the network by turning on OpenVPN server, then download the configuration settings and upload the configuration inside the OpenVPN app.
(you might want to download the OpenVPN installer on a USB drive so you can install it on computers at work)
Hope this works
My school got smart and blocked VPN…. I just used socks or ssh port forward to get around it.
I did try using Surfshark, and you were right - it was blocked. Also, I am using Firewalla as my router, so I will try your suggestion.
ah, port 443 - also known for the UFBP - Universal Firewall Bypass Protocol
Agreed. Also trying to understand why this person has so much personal equipment at their place of work.
I’d configure the OpenVPN server for TCP port 443 while you’re at it. If the WireGuard doesn’t work, the OpenVPN probably will.
