Nord VPN caught running a scam (proof provided)

And if they are not, they are damn deceptive. I made this post for two reasons, one, when I was considering signing on, I would have liked something to show up that Nord is a scam with evidence (when I searched “Nord VPN scam”), not just complaints about their customer service. Two, I have the evidence and feel required to share it.

After going back and forth with Nord VPN for many months, being jerked around and lied to, I finally compiled enough evidence to prove that Nord VPN is a company actively engaged in lying and deceiving customers, violating state and international privacy laws (certain as much as a non-lawyer can be), and harvesting their user data, a scam by any other name. Evidence is viewable online on my Google drive: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1gvgtacbjKMHBoPZu7tfMowO\_gGAaG4vC?usp=drive\_link. Names are redacted for privacy, as though the employees are complicit, the root cause is corporate.

The long and short of it:

They confirmed that I requested very personally-identifiable-information containing tickets be deleted months ago, somehow having read the deleted tickets, yet they supplied me with precisely the thing I asked to be deleted two weeks prior to their confirmation. Conspicuous that they do not ask for identifying information when I ask them to delete the ticket information, unlike all of the barriers before. Regardless, they had said they would delete the tickets “at their earliest convenience”, and for a privacy company, one that requests such specific user information in their tickets and literally has a service to stop companies from data hoarding no less, holding on to my information despite my request is pretty damning. (I’m pretty sure the personal data retention is illegal under various right-to-be-deleted acts across the US and EU.) Needless to say, even if they do not keep logs on where you are browsing, which I am no longer confident of, they absolutely do keep detailed logs on you.

I hope my evidence will help warn others of Nord VPN, because even literally today, looking up items from the internet, just shows mainly complaints and usual corporate stuff, nothing out of the ordinary. I wish something like this, or just how terrible support was, showed up when I typed in “Nord VPN scam” with evidence, because it seems pretty clear to me and I find it hard to believe I am the first to notice. If you have links to share for meaningful experiences similar to this with Nord, please do.

Fuck NordVPN. They charged my credit card weeks before my renewal date even though I wasn’t supposed to renew. Customer support is a joke and wouldn’t cancel the charge for another year of service that I specifically didn’t want. Please do not use these scum bags. I am disputing the charges with my credit card company currently and still looking for a new VPN.

Most Companys have issues with that.

I probe sometimes company’s with gdpr requests and in 60-70% of cases I need to remind them after delivery that this wasn’t all data they handed me over and as generous act I allow them to correct themselfs before I proceed with it as violation.

Most often they forgot stuff like support tickets and more.

And in the vpn space it’s sadly very often this way.

Doesn’t help that many vpn use zendesk and other third party solutions.

They were originally banned here because they and their affiliates used a number of deceptive marketing practices. Mods don’t have time to deal with that BS so we binned any posts mentioning Nord and then when time permitted, allowed the ones that were checked.

Others may have their own issues but Nord made life harder for the mods.

/Creator of this sub.

It’s confirmed that the parenting company behind NordVPN is a Lithuanian data mining botnet service . Good to see posts about the scam they are running

Thanks for sharing this! I have had issues with them in the past as well but didn’t know this. Good to increase the level of transparency on VPN companies to hold them accountable.

Fuck NordVPN. They also scammed me out of their “money back guarantee”. Shitty service, didn’t give money back when asked nicely - will never ever use or recommend again.

Glad I only went for the month option to try it out.

Good safe alternatives?

That is why I don’t trust these VPN providers with my normal traffic. Torrents over Proton is running damn good. Mulvad was good too, but the port forward request was not really working after they stopped it. Sadly they did. But these are the only two good providers.

NORD is a scam, using the product, login to airlines is locked, never logs in. No method to get a refund.

NordVPN is a scam. Fuck them. None of their customer service agents are real. If you google their names, none of them exist on LinkedIn, and each time someone responds to your ticket it’s a different person.

I had literally someone else use my card to pay for their services and they refused to REFUND MY CARD saying their internal team said the payment was not fraudulent, even though my card was used by a different account and I had no access to that account and none of the identifiable details were the same.

Nord VPN is a garbage company! I signed up for two years for $85. Not bad. I thought! I had looked at other options that were almost twice the cost, but since I am on a budget I went with Nord.

It is fine, it does the job, but is super slow.

No VPN I get 900Mbps down and 800Mbps up. With Nord (server in the same city limits) I get 225 down and 110 up. So it is a tight (75%) bottleneck, but cheap and for my purposes, the slower speed aren’t a problem (no hosting).

However … Here is where they lost me.

I was on for auto-renewal and they were going to charge me $150. Almost double my last bill…and get this, for HALF the period of time. Essentially they were going to charge me twice the price of the much better VPN that does not throttle my speed for half the time.

It makes Zero sense to me. Why would they try to scam me. I mean, clearly I will never use their service again and will head straight to Reddit to hope I can prevent at least one other person from getting bushwhacked.

Wouldn’t they have preferred to just keep me for another 15 years. I mean, their short-sightedness is going to bleed them dry. What a joke!

Don’t give them any info and they wont have it to keep.

Regardless, good luck with whatever it is they did. With whatever you gave to them voluntarily.

I have been using NordVPN for many years and never had any issues with them. I do not believe any VPN service can keep your data 100% from the government. It’s just like Facebook and Whatsapp who said that they can’t look into the message users send because of E2E encryption. If that is the case then how is it possible for the to target you with advertisements based on your preferences? If you want 100% privacy you certainly should not use the service of a US company cause they all are liars.

I heard a lot of good about Mullvad, so I went with Mozilla VPN, which uses their services just so that I can support a company I actually like!

The same happened to me with ExpressVPN, but with the opposite outcome. I forgot that I had my ExpressVPN sub on auto renew and they charged me, but when I asked they refunded it pretty quick and support was helpful.

And that’s why I always use a card that expires 6 or more months before the auto renewal after too many posts like this.

This is very ironic, and disturbing…

Are there any sources for that?..

Thanks! That’s the goal!
