Just got Proton. This sucks balls. Is there a workaround? What can I do?
IPVanish has a kill switch side app. I used it with Proton for a while but it requires an IPVanish account as well which is a really wonky workaround. I don’t recommend IPVanish for many reasons.
There is also monitordot app which can be sideloaded and notifies you when the vpn connection has dropped by blinking a dot in the top corner of the screen. However, that’s all it does. It doesn’t kill the connection if the vpn has dropped.
I eventually gave up on trying to work around all this and just set up a vpn router that has built-in kill switch. Much more reliable and able to connect multiple devices through it, including smart tv’s.
It also has the side benefit of removing all the vpn processing from the individual devices themselves which helps improve their performance.
Working with Proton and has been rock solid since then.
