I have forced sign put of all devices, rebooted network, used multiple services to check my ISP (their recommended one fast.com shows correct isp and location). Not sure where to go from here
EDIT: ridiculous but the only way I could get new ip address from spectrum was to change MAC address of router so modem would request new ip. They won’t let their tier 1 or 2 folks do that. Insane, took hours for me to troubleshoot, here’s how to change ip if yours seems blocked by netflix (sucks for whomever gets that address now that’s its been released by me)
Happened to me once while using Netflix in browser (Chrome), what helped is uninstalling (not just turning off - uninstalling) all Chrome extensions - probably Netflix mistook one of them for vpn.
And obvious advice - contact support.
This is not a new thing, many people have encountered. All you can do now is change your IP or turn on IPv6, or wait for Netflix to unblock it in a few days.
I just spent like a half hour with netflix customer services. They were no help, they told me to contact my ISP and tell them to turn off the VPN that I have never had. I have had this network for years and never got a VPN, never had Spectrum offer me one. So I find it had to believe that they forced me to have one just a few days ago, since I was using netflix a few days ago just fine. I even went to http://www.whatismyproxy.com/ and there is no VPN on my network, I told him to fix it or I cancel, he blamed my ISP again and said it has nothing to do with netflix, so I canceled my netflix. Fuck them, I am not wasting more of my time and my ISP’s time on a witch hunt because netflix won’t own up to their mistakes.
For people in the future reading this. I ironically fixed it by using a VPN.
Do you by any chance run anything on your network, allowing your internet connection to act as an exit node? I had this happen to me when I used HoneyGain (I heard about it from a YT video and wanted to try it). Little did I know, using HG allowed people to use my internet connection to watch Netflix. As a result, it likely tripped something over at Netflix, causing ME to get flagged as a VPN. I changed my IP, and a few hours later, same shit happened. Someone from another r1 community was nice enough to help me. Once I yeeted HG into the garbage and refreshed my IP one more time, I haven’t had any problems ever since!
What’s wrong with a vpn ?
If you’re out and about, you should use a vpn anyway.
What’s wrong with them ?
Yep my wife wasn’t able to connect all of the sudden today after she’s been using it regularly for a long time. We have no vpns installed on any devices except my phone. So I installed nord vpn on the wife’s phone and netflix works again. Which is absolutely backwards from what it was telling us. This was after we reset the modem and followed the badly written instructions from netflix to try to fix this issue.
it is happening to me right now, all I’m going to do is just wait.
Screw Netflix. This big brother shit is getting crazy and their tech support might as well be chat bots. Works on tablet but not my phone, confirmed IP address is for my city… and they still want me to tell ISP to stop using a VPN.
What worked for me is turning off my router for about 15 mins and then turning it on again.
Thank you for this. I have been flagged by netfli over and over and… yeah, must have been 2 dozen times now, get unflagged for like a day and then flagged again. Finally was able to get a new IP by changing my mac. Hopefully this ends the cycle of abuse.
Hey just a tip for anyone still experiencing this, I found a solution that works for me, you just install a VPN chrome extension, turn it on and then turn it off and then remove the VPN chrome extension and refresh the Netflix page and it will work again, no idea why but I repeated it multiple times and it works every time for me.
We tried opening a new profile (i.e. a new profile to click on, when Netflix asks who is watching), and apparently, from new profile, we’re able to watch the shows that previously ran into the “VPN error”. So it might not have anything to do with ISP, or modem/router setup, it’s something weird going on with Netflix’s setup.
I got this and its on my fire stick and PS4 but not my main PC; gonna try some of these and see if anything works
I tried everything. I don’t know if this is what worked but I unchecked wi-fi download only.
This is on all devices on my network (firestick, laptop, roku tv, android phone). Contacted them, they said contact ISP. I contacted Spectrum, they said contact Netflix. Ugh
its like you knew in 4 months i would come to this post looking for a solution cheers mate
Was literally using netflix on my ps5 tdy morning and now that im getting back on later tn it shows the “you might be using a vpn or proxy” text which i dont use or have in my console, to fix the issue on my other devices like my phone i turned my vpn on to the country of my residence, logged into netflix, the app works fine now but i guess ill have to keep watching on my other devices bc i have zero clue how to fix this issue on my ps5
Netflix block access to most shows via VPNs because they don’t know which country you’re in.
