Have an OpenVPN server at home. Needing to have a router than can point back to my network to serve one TV so they can use (a cable company’s) streaming app which needs to be on a “approved home network”. Is this something DD WRT is capable of?
I don’t need wireless, it’s going to be a single TV hardlined. Can be 10/100. Just streaming cable here for some older folks. Just hoping to have a constant VPN tunnel back to my network so the smart TV I’d virtually on my home network.
All ASUS home routers have OpenVPN Client (and Server) support built in to their stock firmware as far as I know (maybe their Zen line is an exception). DD WRT is pretty much EOL in terms of active development.
So you can get any ASUS AC router (used) for dirt cheap, disable Wifi, and just use it as an OpenVPN client router. Or buy a new AX55 for $90 if you want something new.
Run Vyos or frrouting if you have a piece of hardware that you can dedicate to it. There are a handful of other platforms that will do what you want. Look up PBR (Policy Based Routing) https://docs.vyatta.com/en/supported-platforms/vrouter/configuration-vrouter/ip-routing/policy-based-routing/configuration-examples/pbr-routing-example
Thanks, didn’t know DD WRT was EOL. I’ll check out ASUS stuff
