My Norton 360 tells me there is 10 drivers that need updating however Device manager shows all of my drivers are up to date, is this just a big scam or what?

As the title says my antivirus tells me I have 10 drivers that need to update and ofc to update them you need to pay more so I went into my device manager and checked each driver then checked windows updates and not only do I have no windows updates but all my drivers are the “latest version installed”

So I am wondering if this Norton thing is just a massive scam to users who don’t know any better.

Remove Norton.

You don’t need it and it’s a drag on your system. Use windows defender.

Uninstall Norton. Hasn’t been good for years, and windows defender is more than enough for most users.

“My Norton 360…” You could’ve stopped there.

The device manager doesn’t actually tell you if you have any available updates to your drivers but shows the drivers that are installed. Once in a while, there will be updates available for drivers that you have but the best way to update is via the computer brand website drivers page or even windows updates optional updates. There are programs that scans your computer for outdated drivers and updates then but they are not always compatible and can cause issues.

Also uninstall Norton. Use windows defender instead

device manager doesnt automaticly give you drivers updates, it scans your pc for drivers and tells you of u are using the best one out of those drivers.

Norton/Symantec and McAfee are both considered viruses in IT.

I have exactly the same problem with a similar suggestion. Make a note of the drivers Norton says are out of date and check each one which I do regularly. My computer usually states they are the best for my PC and if they are out of date then my own computer updates them. What a scam via Norton what are they getting paid for if you do purchase? Nothing because your own PC Windows or whatever program you use does it free. Just downloaded Norton Ultimate and already they want more money to resolve what they identify as PC problems that need fixing. Try Auislogic seems to do a lot more than Norton including Norton Ultimate (got free trial on the go at the moment not sure if after 60 days I will purchase)

Norton is taking forever to start up. It keeps pushing me to upgrade. Why did I sign up with the first one if it’s so bad?

DO NOT download Norton Driver Updater!!! I made the mistake of trusting it and it literally wrecked my C: drive. Norton tried undoing the damage that it caused, but after a week and a half, I had to completely reset my C: drive and reinstall Windows. It became so messed up, that it wouldn’t even boot into safe mode. An apology is NOT enough compensation for the time, trouble and loss that I’ve had with Norton’s wonderful software. I’m in the process of looking for new antivirus software for 10 devices/computers. Don’t let them make you believe that you have defective drivers…or you will when they’re done with you.

Same issue here! This is why I’m here researching. Norton 360 keeps wanting me to update 10 drivers (after paying for yet another upgrade to do so).

I evaluated through my laptop’s manufacturer’s diagnostic and it told me that those driver updates no longer apply to my system. It did give me a BIOS update, which went smoothly.

I have no issues with my hardware/software acting-up. I just wanted to research to make sure I wasn’t neglecting any security vunerabilities by not updating. I’m going to stick with the actual manufacturer’s advice.

the annoying thing is every time I do a smart scan I get this popup window trying to sell me this extension. You can not turn it off. In settings, under administrative settings there is a “special offer notification switch”. But this is already turned off and still it makes this offer all the time. Next year I will dump Norton. Wanted to dump it already but most are the same. I always used Kaspersky but now with this war going on … I went again for Norton because it was like a special offer much cheaper than the rest.

Don’t use Norton Driver Updater. I did and it broke my system. After it completed my webcam would not work. After hours with Norton Support they were able to get it working for things like Zoom but it would work for the Windows Hello function for face recognition. They said it must be a Microsoft issue but that function worked prior to using this very faulty utility. Don’t use it !

I had and did the same thing, device manager says everything is up to date!
I’m seriously thinking about getting rid of Norton as I think they are being deceitful trying to squeeze more money out of their already paying customers!

I have used Norton 360 for years and apart from annoying sales pitches regularly it has worked perfectly. The one time I needed support from them with an issue I got through easily and they solved the problem for me in no time at all. In recent years they have also updated their software to use behaviour based threat detection as well as the usual checking against a database of known threats. But the question was about driver updater and not antivirus of course.

I was offered a free trial and it was telling me that I had 17 outdated drivers although Windows said everything was fine, so I decided to give it a go.

I installed, let it do the updating and yes every driver it spotted did get an update, despite Windows saying they were already up to date. During the 2 months since it has had 6 more updates appear for various devices within the laptop and all have worked perfectly. One issue I was having with the display has also finally disappeared, which is great as I never could get to the bottom of it myself.

I can’t comment on other people’s experience but mine is nothing but positive and I’m going to continue after my free trial ends.

I recently got Nortan 360 Standard for one device. When I was using the VPN it transfered the license from my main device now I can’t get back to my main device. It keeps saying my Mac device isn’t protected. How do I get the license back to the main device?

Also under “My account.” It says I have 7 trusted devices. I only have one device I tried to delete these devices and I got an error message blocking me to delete.

Norton is shit. Remove it

Uninstall Norton, shit program that is no longer relevant. Will slow your PC. I make it a point to always Uninstall it on PCs I work on.

Norton antivirus is malware, Windows defender is good enough.

Windows update will keep on top of your driver updates, go into Windows update, go to Advanced settings, then you’ll see an optional updates category, you’ll find them in there.

Windows 10 and 11 frankly do a good enough job of updating device drivers that you don’t have to use a program to tell you that. Some of these driver update programs can install updates from the chipset maker rather than the pc manufacturer, I did get a spate of non working laptop trackpads because third party drivers installing “updated” drivers…

Only GPU drivers really get updated quickly and it’s worth visiting the website of your GPU manufacturer to see if there is an update.
