Here’s the updated and absolutely massive list of VPNs that do support port-forwarding. Thanks to previous posts by maxwolfie and brickfrog2. Some new entries taken from "VPN"s subreddit list. These needed updating and it took me hours, for your informed choice!

The choice to pick a trusted one is yours, I did not exclude anybody on any criteria.

IPv6 support is a nice thing to have but not mandatory: in rare cases you may connect to peers instantly via IPv6 but not IPv4: when they’re restricted behind NAT and can’t take incoming IPv4 connections. Most VPN providers don’t advertise it readily and often cite it as “IPv6 leak protection” - in other words, no IPv6 connectivity.

All entries are sorted alphabetically, but there’re numbers next to them to pick one at random. Some are not detailed as feature descriptions are often lacking and would require asking support directly. Here I rely on you to fill in the details/propose other VPNs to be added.

Thank you for all your hard work on this. Here’s the deets on two popular VPNs you’ve listed.

Port forwarding in TorGuard: You choose a server, a random port, and a protocol (TCP/UDP) via website. You can choose up to 20 server/port/protocol combinations.

Port forwarding in Mullvad: No server limit exactly. You choose up to five cities via website. They supply the port number for each, all servers in the city have their given port number forwarded.

I have only found 1 that has both port forwarding and split tunneling. Pure VPN. Anyone know of any others? I like being able to exclude a browser and use it for online banking as well as bypassing the VPN for Outlook.

r/Windscribe’s ephemeral port forwarding allows Pro users from 7 days, not 24 hours.

For VyprVPN, one can disable the NAT firewall via the account dashboard which opens all (!) ports, which might be quite dangerous. I have used it to seed torrents though, and it works well.

PrivateVPN are simply lying. They told me most ports are opened outside some to prevent hacking.

I bought the 36 months package. Connected to their dedicated server location and all ports were closed. I tried OpenVPN profile and the windows client. GRC port scan shows all ports stealth or closed. I haven’t found a single port that’s opened. No configuration on their website. They basically told me that once I connect to one of their dedicated IP servers that they forward all ports to me. Not true.

BolehVPN is a no go. I tried their 1 day trial after they said all ports are opened going to be opened. But no, most are closed and there is no dedicated option for port forwarding. At least they have a free 1 day trial.

Ghost Path VPN is a no go.

They have an option to turn on port forwarding and they assign a random port for you. Unfortunately it doesn’t work! Their customer service is impossible to get a hold of. The CEO is actually doing rep work. Must be a small company.

Wevpn does have port forwarding but no ipv6 . This is the instructions from their website which also shows most of the details I believe you were putting down on here .

In the dashboard menu, click the “Port Forwarding” tab.

Select the protocol you want to use with the forwarded port and click ‘’+‘’ You will be attributed a random Port (up to 5 simultaneously).

Using one of the WeVPN applications (Windows, MacOS, Android, iOS) connect to one of our Port Forwarded available locations: UK - London - PF; US - Los Angeles - PF; US - New York - PF.

Switch VPN is a no go.

Bought the $1 - 3 day trial

They say to connect to one of the supported servers for port forwarding and on the bottom the port number assigned will be listed. I did that and got a port number that said was opened in the client app. Tried scanning that port and got stealth. Port was not opened.

Has anyone tried to connect a router with any of those services? I would like to connect a GL-AR300M and use port forwarding to a client inside my network

I’d also mention that Mullvad recently changed their policy so that you can’t modify port settings if you have a recurring subscription set up.

You need to remove the subscription and pay manually each month or pay for several months up front.

Thanks, updated. Not sure you’ll see my comment, but what is the port limit with Mullvad? How many can I port-forward to be used at once with a connection (be it per server or total)

Windscribe and Mullvad afaik too. However due to how Windscribe advertises their app to work with any OpenVPN-based VPN, that’s practically all of them? Needs verification.

Thanks updated. I still don’t entirely understand what exactly VyprVPN is allowing there. They can’t allow every user to use up arbitrary ports because that’d mean they need as many IPv4 addresses as are connected to each server.

Example: 10 users connect to the same server and want to host their block game server on port 25565. It’s impossible unless the server has 10 different IPs.

I think what it does is permit incoming connections to an already bound port (in use by an user):

User starts server on local 25565 → server 43567 (random). With this setting enabled, Server 43567 will always redirect incoming connections to local 25565, but you gotta know what this external port is.

If so it shouldn’t work with private trackers because the Bittorrent clients have no idea about their external port. Until a port-forwarded peer shares with others in the swarm (PEX) your actual IP:Port address.
