hi yall, i just got a new laptop and it came with a free 6 month subscription to Norton 360 with LifeLock, Internet Security Software, and VPN - is it worth it to set up Norton or should i just keep using Windows Defender and not even waste my time?
edit to add i’m generally pretty safe online (dont click sketchy links, triple check before i open anything i’ve downloaded, etc) but it’s nice to have whatever adds an extra layer of protection lol
Norton should be classified as a virus. Remove it. Windows defender and an adblock is more than enough unless you are intentionally trying to get a virus.
There are better alternatives than Norton. Like Kaspersky, Bitdefender, Eset and some others. But you have it free for 6 month. i would keep norton if it doesnt consume high resources in your PC over Windows Defender. as you said, it has extra features.

The current Norton is just riddled with upselling ads.
The worst of which are in their “smart scan” which is enabled by default and is everywhere you look.
Lifelock / Norton hate their customers on a level that is up there with HP.
Would avoid unless you have no other option.
None of them.
Norton behaves like malware itself considering it was exposed being a cryptominer, it uses an high amount of resources, it causes a lot of annoying pop-ups and it is difficult to get rid of.
Windows Defender is struggling with detecting modern malware samples, especially unknown/new threats. It is easy to bypass and has a lot of vulnerabilities.
You should check out Bitdefender or Kaspersky if you want strong protection with many security features and mechanisms. Oh and they have a free version with real time protection, unlike greedy Norton.
