I’ve been downloading some games using torrent and got this notice from them.
They’re saying I should stop otherwise they will terminate my plan.
Besides that, they’re saying I might need go to the court or I might even get sued.
And the amount to pay is ridiculously high.
What should I do?
Should I be worried?
How many of you also got this? What happened then?
Also what are the chances that they call me on court or even sue me?
It might be different depending on location, but where I am Spectrum cuts off service with your 3rd infraction. I happily torrented for years with no VPN, then I got 2 warnings within a few months and decided it was time for a VPN. There were no consequences at all with the 1st 2 warnings.
Don’t use free VPN. They won’t protect you. I tried and ISP can see you what you downloaded from a site call “I know what you downloaded”.
Get a premium VPN. It’s not risk losing your internet service because spectrum need to protect themselves from lawsuit. The notice you received are like a plea to get a premium VPN and in guessing they can’t say that out loud without getting into legal trouble for promoting piracy.
It’s a first notice so ci sider it a warning. I got one warning from att amd after the second they blocked my ability to download torrents without a VPN. Get a VPN. After you get one fire it up and be sure to go to a “where is my ip” web page to make sure your IP is showing up whatever country your VPN is connected to. That was how I got my second warning. My VPN was not setup correctly and my ipv6 address was still local.
Nothing will happen with the first letter. But theres a chance you’ve already wracked up the strikes for the second and third letter and are waiting to get the notification. There’s usually a delay and the letter should show when the violation occurred. As far as a VPN, Nord has made some pretty awesome updates to support P2P
Spectrum specifically is proactive with sending love letters when they flag torrent activity. I’ve never actually seen them act on them but they get awful threatening if they spot your activity in the swarm. You’re probably fine, but you can also call them up using your best old man voice and ask for an explanation. 9/10 out they’ll remove the previous flags so if it happens again it’ll be seen and treated like your first strike.
Sauce: I actually had to deal with this because someone torrented on my grandmother’s network
Is just a notice to stop doing it. I have had like 4. They ban me for 3 days. I call them and tell them I bought whatever I downloaded long time ago and didn’t wanted to pay again they just want you to recognize what you did and they let you back
nah. just get a vpn or a private site so you don’t get anymore notices. one time i let my vpn expire and kept seeding for months. i’ve had over 30 of those notices from comcast and nothing was ever done
Use vpn, turn kill switch on. Switch from spectrum forever. They record your name and even if u resubscribe with different account in the future and do infringement, they still hv your record from prior warning and warning add up. Don’t risk yourself esp if u live in US. Other option os completely abandon torrenting if u can’t be careful and use debrid service or usenet.
You must have been doing a lot of torrenting without a VPN . I have Spectrum and have been torrenting with a VPN for years. Only about five times have I accidentally torrented without a VPN, not once have I received an email.
I would recommend stopping for at least a few days, and if you start again, GET A VPN.
If you’re downloading anything that isn’t free, then you’re liable and they may be too. Hundreds or thousands of moneys per download.
And even if nothing’s happened to anyone before, it’s possible and will happen eventually, because the corporation takes money seriously enough that it doesn’t care if you get to keep breathing as long as they aren’t deprived of the money. (See: tobacco, health insurance, pharmaceuticals, auto manufacturers, fossil fuels, etc).
I use Private Internet Access. It’s not free, but reasonably priced. It’s logless, as proven in court, so whatever you do through it will not leave a trace. I’ve found it excellent for torrenting.
Just switch to Usenet , and find some nzb indexers ( you will find plenty on internet ) and you will not need a vpn , because you have encrypted connection trough ssl , and you don’t need to worry about seed ratio, and it works great with all the arr suits
Lots of questions in the comments about what VPN provider to use. Go to torrentfreak website and look for the article “Which VPN Providers Really Take Privacy Seriously”. On my PC, it’s in the most popular posts on the right side bar. Read, learn and choose.
