I downloaded a basic free VPN, will it keep me safe torrenting?

As the title goes, I downloaded hide .me, it runs in my system tray, but I am not using a proxy server nor did I configure anything inside utorrent. Will this still keep my ISP from seeing what I do, and will it keep ne safe torrenting?

You would have to bind the torrent program to the VPN and the VPN would need to be configured to allow port forwarding. You would then set the torrent to access the VPN through that port. This is where the free ones fail: they do not allow port forwarding. You could bind the torrent program to the VPN but unless it allows port forwarding, then it will not connect.

If you are torrenting without binding or port forwarding with this free VPN, then the VPN is simply not allowing the torrent to access its network and you are torrenting unprotected. Your IP is exposed and you are running the risk of being exposed.

Most VPNs do not allow torrenting and do not allow port forwarding either, paid or free versions. There are about 2 or 3 VPNs that allow torrenting and port forwarding

It will not. Your only solution is a paid VPN.

How does it not and what will

Came here this morning because using Nord and uTorrent on a Mac I have received 2 copyright infringement notifications.

I don’t even torrent that much maybe 6 times over the last 6 months.

Could you recommend any documentation I could follow to lessen my risk.

Thanks

I bound my VPN (Surfshark) to Qbittorrent and when I disconnect the VPN, the torrents don’t stop. Why is this happening?

How does it not

its free , do you think they will lawyer and protect you and fight long cases out to protect you?

they will also log everything to earn money.

Does the company have a track record of protecting torrent users? If not, what makes you think they wouldn’t just hand over your information to law enforcement when they are subpoenaed?

Unless you are doing something crazy your IP address will still be hidden using a Free VPN, assuming the VPN doesn’t log and has a legit track record.

Just make sure they don’t log and if you are really concerned pay for a service with port forwarding and take u/zerosumratio’s advice below.

There is no “free product”, you are the product that is being sold

Probably not binding it right or SurfShark was never allowing you to torrent through their VPN to begin with.

I got it to work. I brought up the data stream graph and when I disconnect everything stops.
