I mostly use it for torrenting. I use uTorrent. I’d like to be able to bind the IP address and had a horrible time with HMA’s IP Bind feature. Suggestions anyone? Thanx!
UPDATE: So I decided to give Private Internet Access a try. It did not work so well with Windows but their OpenVPN option works fine. Their tech support helped me through it and the download rate is MUCH better than what I had with HMA!.
I seem to recall something about Hidemyass retaining a fair amount of data on users traffic, being served with court order to release the information and complying.
I’m using https://cloudnymous.com for 3 months already. They are the first VPN service provider with pay-per-use pricing model. The speed is quite good and they explicitly mentioned that they keep no logs.
Where in the US do they have servers? I went with HMA because of the availability of a couple mid-west servers (Chicago, Cincy, and KC ass a few). Living in Indiana I don’t want to go through a VPN in NYC or Miami. I am considering moving because I can’t get HMA to cooperate with uT. I keep losing the connection and it is slower in general. Currently I fly naked because of it. TYIA
being served with court order to release the information and complying
Holy shit, they complied? With the law?
Honestly, what do you expect a company to do when it’s ordered by the courts to do something? Take hostages?
(I am not defending HideMyAss in any way, I’ve never used their service. But your criticism of them seems like a ridiculous one. I suppose retaining data is not strictly necessary, so it’s a valid criticism, but complying with a court order?)
I believe it is the ability to have the torrent client send all its data through the VPN, while having all the rest go through the normal connection (which is usually faster)
Using Astrill here as well. Added the $5/month +5 IP plan and all my devices are VPN’d (Phone/tablet/laptop/router). Great service and great speeds. NonVPN speeds at home at 2.7MB/s, connected to a server (across the country too!) I get 2.5MB/s. Plenty of servers (77 if I remember) with a couple which offer P2P connections. They have an easy router (DD-WRT and Tomato) setup script as well.
I also have referral links if you wanna be awesome. =)
