I have about three paid services and cant afford more so I used my VPN and downloaded Kodi. Apparently a bad version of it because nothing would work with it. But besides that… I really dont have a lot of interest in many newer shows. I like Judge Judy, bbc dramas, really really horrible exploitive reality tv, murder mysteries, crime shows and I really want to watch Harley Quinn and paramount + shows. But I have no idea which of these millions of builds and add-ons would provide these things. Can anyone point me in the direction of a few add-ons that might fit the bill? Thank you. you dont need a vpn to download kodi - use vpn once you got it installed and are using the addons.
you could use elementum addon (with your vpn)
you could also add a torrent rss feeds to videos>files>add videos…
which would consist of the shows you want to watch and/or of movies
and play the links using elementum’s context helper addon
Alternatively, people are posting coupons for a free 30 day account with PM. So you can test the full functionality of a debrid service and it won’t cost you anything.

Well the first thing you’re going to need to know is that Kodi doesn’t work well with streaming from the internet without a debrid service subscription which is going to cost you around $3 a month, but the good news is once you have it working well you shouldn’t need any other paid service and can probably cancel the ones you currently have.
As for addons, probably start with The Crew or The Oath. You’ll be able to test those with VERY limited success for free without a debrid service but will work excellently once you get one. You could even just start with an ‘All Debrid’ subscription for just 1 month for $3-$4
You didn’t share your hardware, but Libreelec is a good choice for set top box type setup. Or just install Kodi on a PC.
Since you like older shows, go for Easynews and 1 debrid service. See deals in the link below.
For addons, Fen, Venom and The Crew do Easynews as well as the Oath I think. They are also great for Debrid. Seren is good, but debrid only.
You need to setup a skin. Personally I use Auramod AIO, but you can start with the default. It just takes some navigating around. A custom skin would make that all easier.

Quick question RE Elementum if you don’t mind me asking - can you define a SOCKS proxy for the torrent engine, as opposed to needing a full VPN connection?

You shouldn’t need a VPN for a debrid service. I’m not aware of any country that is blocking debrid services, but you may need one to fully utilize all the torrent site scrapers, if you live in an offending country.
BTW, EasyNews comes with a VPN. It’s called PrivadoVPN and it’s got mixed reviews. It seems that people have said speeds are better than what they used to be, but it doesn’t have the best of security and I haven’t bothered to test it myself.
Yes there is… and one day I will set that up. But for now, the simpler solution for me is to whitelist every app on my Chromecast BESIDES Kodi on the VPN so that ONLY Kodi has it’s traffic tunneled.
Just throwing this out there for anyone who wants a similar solution that’s a little easier to implement.

It’s not about Debrid services being blocked, more like getting banned by your ISP if you are downloading, not just streaming. Or doing uncached torrents or other sources that open you up to “the world”. Personally I have never used a VPN with any Debrid, Usenet or even torrents.
Cool, appreciate that. Got a mate with no debrid but who does have a service over which he can proxy his torrenting so might set him up with Elementum, see how he gets on. Thanks again. 
What are you talking about? You are downloading when you play streams, lol. All of it’s encrypted, so they have no idea what you’re doing. They only know that you are using a debrid service.
Uncached torrents are sent to the debrid services where THEY do the torrenting.
You don’t do any of the torrenting yourself, unless you are using an addon like Elementum.
You know how / why there are a million sites where you can stream / not download the latest movies? Because in many countries, streaming is not illegal. Downloading (saving to some storage) is illegal.
If we want to get semantic, technically streaming it is downloading to your RAM. But you are not saving the file. That’s the difference. Not sure what that looks like on the ISP end.
I know someone personally who got served papers by their ISP for downloading movies. They listed the filenames / titles. I also experienced ISP blocking certain https downloads that had movie titles in the filename.
While you are correct they cannot see the encrypted contents of a download, they can see the filename being downloaded.
In my case I got around it by downloading on alternate port which the ISP was not monitoring. It was spooky too since the filename was a .zip that contained a movie. So they had some way to either see filename inside of the zip or some checksum that knew what file I was downloading.
So I’m not sure what you’re talking about, but that explains what I’m talking about.
