It took me a few hours last night to get this working. So, i wanted to make a quick tutorial for anyone that is looking to make a configuration for their TP-Link router. (preformed on a AX1800)
(Side note: this will work with any VPN provider, as long as they have configuration generators. )
From there, fill out the description to whatever you’d like. (EXAMPLE: PIA Atlanta)
In “username” use your PIA username, and “password” use your PIA password.
For the config file, choose the file that was generated on the pia website. Then click “save” once it is uploaded.
Troubleshooting:
If you are getting “connecting” on the vpn status, you may need to restart the router. If that does not work, you will need to update to the latest firmware.

All of this looks good, but I am left with a question: Where do I put the PIA Dedicated IP Token? Does it go in the opvn file? Somewhere else?
This is the best tutorial that I’ve found for this, so far, but I’m trying to adapt it to an OpenVPN Docker Client and I have no idea where the token gets put on that. I’m hoping that I just add it to the config file, but I can’t figure out where.
The only reason I know this, is because I’ve tried with 4 different vpns. I tried Linux with all of them first. None of them will allow the connection. When you find anyone using a tp link that has successfully gotten it to work. They use andriod files. There wasn’t a tutorial for tp link, and PIA. So I figured I’d make a working one, after hours of trying last night.
No problem! Just wanted to get it out there to help people out. It took me a few hours to figure out. Figured I it could save people of the future plenty of time. Glad it could already help others
This is my, and yes, that’s the latest version for EU & JAPAN: Firmware Version:
1.3.8 Build 20230830 rel.19767(4555) Hardware Version:
Archer AX20 v1.0
As long as they have an open vpn configuration. I believe there is ways to create other configurations manually, but personally do not know how to do that. Just trying to get a user friendly guide made. I would have to look more into it to be able to see if they work similarly. You can flash a TP link with custom firmware to run direct wireguard log into. A lot of that I haven’t researched. So far I haven’t had need to. Wish I could help more! But I will look into making a tutorial for it.
