How do I use a vpn to hide my crime from spectrums hit squad

So I torrented my very first video game a few weeks ago (hogwarts legacy lmao) because I’m BROKE broke, but just noticed I’ve gotten like 10 emails from spectrum telling me that entertainment software is going to blow up my house if I don’t wipe my hard drive immediately (joke). I know NOTHING about my crime or how to hide it. I know that a vpn hides my ip address but that’s it. I don’t even know what a torrent actually is I just followed the directions in a YouTube video and it worked. So I have a LOT of questions:

  1. Am I going to jail
  2. If I get a vpn, will they stop bothering me or are they like locked on and it’s too late to hide
  3. What’s a good cheap VPN (as mentioned above, I’m BROKE broke) (I have Norton on my pc already I think but from the reading I did before this post, apparently Norton vpn is not good enough)
  4. Will a vpn affect my ping in valorant
  5. If yes to the previous question, can I just turn it off and on when I’m playing val or will that let them zero in on me again and I have to just hide forever
  6. If I have to get a vpn, HOW do I go about doing that and make sure it’s hiding all the right stuff and whatnot (step by step directions/dm may be necessary)

I’m not planning to torrent a bunch of games or anything in the future, I just wanted to play that one without having to drop 70$ on a game I didn’t even know if I was going to enjoy. Spectrum just raised my internet price too so I want to get this off my record before I go beg them to lower it a little.

Yarr! ➜ u/angelbabyzz, some tips about “YouTube”:

Yep you’re going straight to jail unfortunately.

  1. No, but they might (eventually) shut off your internet.
  2. Many people (including myself) use VPNs for sailing the high seas and don’t receive any hassle from their ISPs. Just make sure you’re using qbitorrent and that the VPN is bound to it so that the torrent client doesn’t decide to use your unprotected IP by accident.
  3. First, get Norton off your PC, that’s junk and only slows your shit down. All you need is Windows defender as long as you aren’t clicking links for hot moms in your area all the time. Second, Private Internet Access is pretty cheap, but there are plenty of others as well, just dig around. Some even have free versions with data caps for a month, depending on what you’re downloading this could work.
  4. You can turn just about any VPN on/off, turn it on when you’re torrenting, turn it off when you’re gaming. A good one won’t effect ping if the server is near you, but ymmv.
  5. See previous. Unless you’re downloading something while you’re gaming then they won’t know. Make sure you’re not letting it seed on the client while the VPN is off.
  6. Most VPNs are super self explanatory. You just turn it on and it works, that’s it.

You’re going tol hell jail, and you DON’T wanna go to hell jail. Sorry dude

I currently work there and from my experience (because I don’t work on that department) if it’s the first time you can talk yourself out of it but invest in a good vpn or stop because they can cancel your account just for that

I stopped getting emails from my isp once I started using a vpn. Turn it on when torrenting, download your torrent, save it somewhere and delete the file and if you decide to seed leave your vpn on.

I use mulvad VPN. it used to have port forwarding, which they had to disable because sick puppies where using it to host child pornography. I still use it tho, just have a shitty upload sometimes.

We use to own an ISP so I wouldn’t get to concerned if you’ve only had a couple of warnings. In most cases ISP’s aren’t to worried unless they are contact by the Police or a similar agency that requires the ISP provide your details and history. Using a VPN is NOT a 100% guarantee of protection but covers off most things by hiding your IP address. You can still be tracked when downloading things like movies and games as the movie companies plant a tracking code on the movie or game itself so even if you are using a VPN it still gets through. When you watch the movie it sends a message to places like Vobile compliance and they can track everything. Have a look at Anonymistic.com as they have some good blogs on the best VPNs.

I think the cheapest option is to get real debrid. You can copy magnet links to real debrid and it downloads them for you(many times instantly). You then get a ddl that’s safe. Costs around 15 euros for 6months. Cant use with private trackers, since you can’t seed the file back

As for your last excuse, steam allows you to return the game and get full refund if you play less than 2 hours. If you want piracy, just do it without trying to find excuses

Put your computer in the microwave

So, after the act, you start asking the questions, you should have asked before the act. Also, if you are using Qbittorrent, test it to ensure it is not leaking past your VPN. In other words, test it at one of those torrent leak websites.

Do not pass go. Do not collect $200.

Can you please explain 5 a lil more? What’s a seed? Who’s the client?

So question. If these fine fellows get me sorted out and I can hide my criminal activity, does spectrum stay mad at me? Or were they kind of just the messenger and once the warnings stop coming they won’t care. I ask because I’m hoping to haggle with my internet price (another thread on an different forum said I could do that if I call the right cryptic department) and I’m concerned that my track record will immediately make them not want to work with me.

When you say delete the file…. This is a confusing part for me. In the warning emails it says that they are finding a file or something every time they ping my pc or whatever, but in my limited knowledge… deleting the file is just… deleting the game? Is that what you mean, do I have to give up and delete it or is there a different file I can delete? Thank you :folded_hands:

Thank you, how do I do this?

Thank you for your response  but what’s real debrid, is that a vpn? Also, what’s a magnet link, what’s a ddl, whats a private tracker, and what’s seeding
Im sorry for these questions I’m just VERY new to this
