I’m looking for a little advice on setting up our house to use a VPN 24/7. I’m not much into the networking stuff so it’s a little beyond me, but I’ll struggle through. I’m just wondering if someone can tell me if I’m on the right path.
I was thinking I could install an OS like dd-wrt or pfsense on an old PC and run a Mysterium node on it? I want Ethernet and Wifi so I was just going to grab a pcie ethernet card and use the onboard wifi. I appreciate any help, and love the project!
I run proxmox and have an OpenWRT VM for the firewall and a mysterium node running in a container.
I don’t route my traffic through the VPN it’s just an endpoint for the mysterium network so I can earn some crypto.
I did have to enable IP routing on the host (proxmox) to allow the myst node to work correctly and have full cone NAT.
But may I ask why you want to route all your traffic through a VPN? I can understand streaming through it to avoid geo-blocking. But other than that it costs money and complexity to your internet access.
Online anonymity just doesn’t seem like a bad idea these days. I’ve got 2 PC’s (wife and I) and our TV I wanted to get on the VPN so doing the whole network seemed like the way to go. I’m also doing a new build and have a Threadripper 1920x system that will be sitting idle so I was gonna use that. And yeah being able to earn crypto on-top of having the VPN was sweet gravy.
Did you get any joy with this? I’ve been thinking of doing the same with an old rpi and routing some devices, such as my TV, through it. I already run a node and it does well enough to ensure I don’t have to pay for Mysterium VPN. TIA
