Use one of the free trials— Visible, Verizon, T-Mobile Test Drive, Cricket Free Trial, etc. Some of them may need to be installed over WiFi while physically in the US, and have another SIM in the phone to start. You may need a U.S. App Store ID, which isn’t hard to make and doesn’t affect your iCloud/iMessage Apple ID.
If you want to buy a plan and you have iPhone, just download the T-Mobile Prepaid eSIM app. Or use their website.

Great advice! Thank you very much.

hey! great advice here. i’m travelling to USA soon as well, however, while i’m still in my country i cannot download neither verizon nor t-mobile app from google play, 'cause “it’s not available in your country”. anyone knows if it will become available when i’m physically in USA? VPN does not help. i will be in a hurry when landed, so trying to deal with this all in advance
