Alright so there’s two ways to do this, the first way is the short and straight forward way which shouldn’t take much effort at all. While the second is also quite straight forward but it’s meant for people who want to play Lost Ark using their main Steam account. If you have any problems, feel free to DM me on Reddit.
Method 1: [Creating a brand new Steam account]
- Download a VPN, the choice is upto you. If you know a VPN that you trust and use constantly, go ahead and use it. I personally used UrbanVPN.
- Open up a browser, go into Incognito mode.
- Turn on the VPN and choose a location - one of these should work: Germany, Sweden, United States or United Kingdom
- Go to https://store.steampowered.com/ - Create a new account
- Open up a new tab, google: “lost ark steam”, head to the official Lost Ark Steam page
- Click “Play Game”, it should be added to your account.
Now this alone, should be fine as Lost Ark is a free 2 play game. So you can create the account in a different region using VPN, claim the game and you should be fine.
Now from here you can do two things:
- Open up Steam while still having the VPN on. Then login into the newly created account and see if you can directly download the game. If this works, great!
- Or…if you were facing some issue where the download starts for a millisecond and cancels out, you need to try and download the game by clicking “Play Game” from the Lost Ark steam page on the browser
Once the Download starts and it pops up in your Steam downloads, pause the download, turn off the VPN and then resume the download. You should now be able to download the game fully using the closest Steam server!
So this is the easiest way to get into Lost Ark.
Method 2: [Adding Lost Ark to your main Steam account where the Country/region is probably India]
Now this is a bit more annoying but the first few steps stay the same. In fact, do the same right until Step 3 from [Method 1]
- [Check Method 1]
- [Check Method 1]
- [Check Method 1]
- Login to your Steam account in the browser.
- Go to the Store frontpage and choose any game, I chose Dying Light 2. Add it to cart ^((Don’t worry you’re not buying Dying Light 2 to Play Lost Ark xD))
- Now on top of the billing screen, you’ll see an option called “Currency” with a dropdown, select the currency based on the VPN location you chose
- A prompt will appear that asks whether your billing address is in India or in the new location, make sure to select the option that your billing address is a new location/changed
- Now after you have selected that, don’t do anything on that screen. Open up a new tab → Google: “Lost ark Steam” → Head to the Official Lost ark Steam page and just click “Play Game” (Your Steam account should already be logged in, in the new tab)
From here, it follows the same as [Method 1]
You can either:
- Open up Steam while still having the VPN on. Then login into your account and see if you can directly download the game. If this works, great!
- Or…if you were facing some issue where the download starts for a millisecond and cancels out, you need to try and download the game by clicking “Play Game” from the Lost Ark steam page on the browser which will then lead to a browser pop up to start steam and download the game
Again, just like in [Method 1], once the Download starts and it pops up in your Steam downloads, pause the download, turn off the VPN and then resume the download. You should now be able to download the game fully using the closest Steam server!
I hope this helps you guys to install and play a pretty cool game like Lost Ark, I’ve already put countless hours into the game and it’s truly a shame that Smilegate and Amazon Game Studios didn’t do enough to try and publish this game in India where they could have certainly got a huge following.
Again, if you face any issues, DM the issue on Reddit and I’ll try to help you out!
Happy Lost ark-ing folks!
Edit:
One more thing to add:
I would suggest creating your characters in the EU West region and choosing either Moonkeep or Stonehearth as your server. Both of these are primarily English servers. The ‘unofficial’ International servers if you will
You can still choose any other server you want but just note that there are more regionalized players on there.
