I don’t care if in the past staff has said it’s safe to do so. People have had firsthand accounts of getting frozen for being linked to cheaters using VPNs. For your own safety, do not use them while on neo.
For everyone affected, and those who have been told their accounts cannot be returned to them, I’m sorry. It sucks. Hopefully we can shed some light on this issue, and push for more transparency from support.
It’s really shitty that this is even something you have to worry about. VPN use is commonplace and is one of the easiest ways to protect your privacy online. I can almost garrentee that the staff uses a VPN when dealing with internal information.
Some modern browsers even come with VPNs integrated in them! There is no reason this should be happening.
I got frozen a long time ago for logging in at a hotel one time. Ever since I don’t mix IP’s anymore. Not worth the risk.

To add to this, be aware that playing on mobile IS ALSO problematic.
I know you, OP, were one of the ones on my original post but long story short I mainly access Neo through mobile due to lack of stable internet. Got my main & my side account frozen “for cheating or using cheat programs” and Neo_truths was able to confirm it was due to an IP my mobile data generated that got me flagged September 3rd, 2023.
My case is still an ongoing one. Please be careful!

Seconding this, I specifically created a reddit account to comment on this…x_x. I am still on the journey of fighting to get my account back, I HIGHLY suspect the reason for the freeze was due to the shared IP from the VPN, where my account was flagged along with some suspicious accounts, for Alice told me that they somehow have “evidence” of me linked to the pet buying/selling accounts and did it myself???
I exclusively played Neopets on my tablet where VPN was turned on all the time. I am so mad to think that this is likely the key that caused my beloved pets and account to be frozen after putting in so much work… and this is what TNT will take as their “solid evidence” lol. I won’t give up on ticketing though
Honest question - does using the authentication numbers and birthday questions when logging in to an “unrecognizable” device not do anything to help? I only say this because I do my morning dailies at work through the week and then play at home most of the evening and weekends. I’m always using authentication codes and birthday questions before logging in. Is this not something that matters if, in the end, TnT is just freezing accounts using different IPs anyway??
I uninstalled my VPN after i got a 3 day ban on wow for using it

It should be fine if you get a dedicated IP otherwise it’s just as risky as playing on cell service or at hotels or other public areas.
I predominantly play on my main account over my unlimited mobile data because my Internet isn’t… Great. On my PC I’m logged into my lab side for zaps only so I don’t have to relog as much to do it.
Hearing I could be frozen for playing on my main account on my phone specifically is scary… I guess it just solidifies for me to not ever spend any actual money ever on the site. If I get frozen, I won’t be coming back or making a new account. Would just make me quit cold turkey.
Which I know my husband wouldn’t be too sad about 
But yeesh. I guess I’ll just enjoy it as it is right now and if I get unfairly iced… Oh well? 
I love Neopets, even through all the bugs and glitches and poor choices, but this and the mobile/mobile data thing is insidious. It’s 2024 - so many people use VPNs and smartphones these days. The fact you can get frozen for apparently simply having a “bad” ip address is absolutely appalling. I’ve paid for Premium through so much contraversy because I wanted to believe the site and its staff were well meaning and would improve, but this is actually disgusting to me. This isn’t just losing a few million on the trading post to a glitch - this is losing your neopoints, your neopets, your items, your avatars, your neocash… you whole account.
My Premium Species Perk renews in February, and I’ve waited a year to get my Sponge Blumaroo, but if this is still an issue by then, this might be what finally forces me to cancel my premium. Sad.
Honestly if I got frozen for using a VPN I’d be bummed, but may be a blessing as I spend more time than I’d like to admit on the site.

There is more to the world than the USA. USA has stable IP addresses, Australia and NZ do not. Every time the router restarts, the IP address gets renewed.
Considering how many issues we have with the NBN + 5g not going so stellar…

a thing that could be done is to have a special browser just for neopets and get onto that browser only to play the site. i have edge for it and just renamed it on my desktop as Neopets… could go the extra step and change the icon too, but I’m a little too lazy for that
