Finally deleted norton 360

my download speed quadrupled. literally quadrupled. was downloading games at 2MB/s now its at 8.6, mental. how on earth does norton get away with shoddy software? and why is it pre installed on seemingly every windows device

Norton has always been a memory hog.

Not every windows device, just a bunch of OEMs have a deal with them, it’s like any bloatware you find. I haven’t had anything but defender for years.

1998 was the last time someone downloaded Norton intentionally.

Norton used to be reliable. When they merged with Lifelock it went to hell!

I finally removed Norton from a new Asus ROG laptop running Win11. Deleted from apps when first purchased the machine, but came back as a nagging pop-up. Finally downloaded the “Norton removal Tool”, and now (hopefully) is gone.

What about disabling von when downloading games? The Norton von is slower than dedicated VPN services.
But according to the tests I’ve seen it was still decent speed.
But this was insane fast speeds likely on fiber optics.
I don’t get anywhere near that with regular 5g at home.
But I’ve not tried Norton

Same but lokey , windows defender is borderline not enough anymore. With all these AI virus , it’s getting out of hand

OMFG that made me laugh.

As the other person said this usually only happens if you’re actively a dumbass online. Maybe take a remedial computer course?

For me It is enough as long as you are actually smart. Every virus needs to have you yourself do anything for It to get into your computer. I do not think any virus can get into your computer without you doing anything at all (But correct me if I am wrong.) A good antivirus is more of a second prevention to have, but the first line of defense is yourself and no one else.

Maybe don’t be a smart ass dickhead? Might help a lil more.

That’s something I don’t think everyone who uses computers on a daily basis understands, despite everything we have advanced in computers it doesn’t protect you if you’re a fucking idiot online. It likely won’t either, as it’s nearly impossible to predict what stupid is going to do. Even when I DID go to sketchy websites I did enough due diligence to make sure I didn’t download the crappy copies of things, and what I did download I scanned the crap out of with multiple AV/spyware programs. Weeks of work to make sure I downloaded the actual edition of a ROM/ISO instead of something uploaded by the company who hasn’t produced the game in a decade, just wants to keep their grubby little hands on the unused IP.

This is coming from someone who’s been using computers for almost 20 years now. I know how to avoid the stupid stuff & not dig too deep in unknown territory.
It’s just like what buddy said. So many motherboards come preloaded with a bunch of crapware. No way would i ever agree to install Nordon360 yet months after installing my new PC all the sudden Nordon popped up saying i had to run some scan & i was like wttfff.
The problem with windows defender is all these new viruses & malware know how to fool you & your security. It will always say you have 0 viruses when you actually have something. Got locked out of my PC not too long ago trying to fight that BS. On a fresh install again & updated my BIOS that didn’t load up bs during installation.

I’ll stop being a dickhead when people stop being so stupid.

Yeah, the thing is that basically every time a new virus come just about every antivirus is not gonna be able to do anything against It. Even then most of the time virus will trick you into somehow giving them permission to go through the antivirus and most of the time by the time an antivirus says anything the virus will have already done some damage in some way. The only thing that can stop them is you yourself being carefull and also informing yourself of new ways virus try to get into your computer. Having an antivirus is good, but if you are just a person who uses your computer from time to time and doesn’t have anything important you can deal with Microsoft defender, even if It will mostly only tell you about virus after they are already in.

I can tell you’re the know it all type that thinks everyone is stupid bc all you do is focus on the stupid. Kinda stupid if you ask me :joy:

Yeah exactly true :folded_hands:t2: The fact one even slipped by me in the first place was surprising. Lesson learned while buying 2022 & up PC parts. Just because you trust a company , doesn’t mean you should say yes to everything they try to install.
