WBD are removing eurosport and the TdF (and all other UCI races) will be broadcast on TNT instead. This means a huge price hike from £6.99pm for Discovery+ to £30.99. There are cheaper options for TNT if you’re a Virgin media customer or EE, but essentially it’s going to kill the ability to watch cycling in the UK.
To get around this the simplest solution is to install a VPN on a device or TV and tune into French Television. They will be showing the TdF from 3pm (local time) each day, with some extended days. For other races who knows?
Over recent years I’ve really enjoyed watching the classics and having TdF on in the afternoon while I work. Not going to be so straightforward forward now. Hardly surprising. The cycling world is already so focused on money, it was only a matter of time before they turned on the fans as well.
Edit: above is in UK context. There may be other options for other countries. Please let us know though so we can use VPN to stream them in the UK. Much appreciated.
Huh. I watch two sports - cycling and ice hockey. Won’t pay £30+ for the privilege. Going to watch hockey every week in season here in the UK is cheaper than that
Wow, they will lose a massive amount of viewers. Vote with your wallet, if people don’t watch (officially), sponsors will leave and they’ll be forced to backtrack.
The most galling thing about this was the corporate bullshit saying this was a good thing and sports fans could now find all their favourite sports in one easy location. No, I’d rather it still be fucking free and have the bother of clicking a different number of my TV set. Twats…
This is not a sport event anymore, just a race for profit.
It’s a shame what’s happening, every aspect of our lives are getting conditioned by a sort of subscription by these f%#$@%g greedy media giants.
I love this sport, but I won’t put a dime in the WBD’s pockets.
Every single sport have been confiscated by these greedy mf.
I’m so sorry! That discovery+ charge increase is insane! I have max (us), and I hope it won’t jump like that, because they show the most races (and the women’s races!) If it does increase, they had better ramp up their cyclocross coverage. I also have peacock, and that shows tdf & vuelta, and some other large races. Both of those options are around $20 combined in the US.
