Ecobee no longer working in my country

That’s interesting, I wonder if there’s sanctions or they’re just geo-blocking countries with lots of spam IPs. When I saw the title, I assumed you were in Russia or Iran where it’s all but guaranteed not to work.

VPN is a good idea. You could probably get a cheap VPS out of Texas, Florida or Montreal and run your own VPN if you really want.

Fair enough! Kind of a shitty situation because it’s not as if I Google every product I buy to make sure it’ll work in my country, but it’s also ecobee’s prerogative to decide which countries to support. I wonder if the user registration form (which every smart functionality customer would definitely see) makes the country restriction clear. I’d say it should be printed on the box too, but most of us don’t buy in a store so that wouldn’t really help with much.

Thanks I wasn’t aware there is local control with ecobee. I’ll give it a try. I do have it connected to a vpn VLAN at the moment but will see how local control works

I have a feeling this is ecobee blocking access from Nicaragua IPs. I don’t think the country has the infrastructure to block outgoing connections yet. Some government officials are sanctioned and it’s probably related to that. I asked support yo see if they’re able to provide a reason

Thanks Taylor! Yea I have a VPS out of California and running it through there. A bit of a hassle since I have to connect my phone when using the app. I got a response from Ecobee and they were the ones that blocked things on their backend. Response below
