Early auto-renewal?

I was just charged for an auto-renewel 2 weeks before the subscription was due to expire. I didn’t think they could do that, I can’t find it in their terms of service. What the hell?!

Update: I contacted their customer service through e-mail and they’re offering me a refund. I am within the 30 day refund window. The process was a lot easier than I was expecting. They were prompt to respond and there wasn’t any fuss. So, I should give them that! Although they said it would like 5-10 days to process the refund, I will provide another update once the refund goes through. Thanks guys!

Exactly why I like to add a card, pay the bill and once it clears, report it lost and get a new card with a new number. They can try to charge me early but all they’ll get is a big FU.

Hang on… how were you in the 30 day refund window if it was renewing from another term of the subscription? I thought the 30 day refund only applied to the initial term.

My 3 year sub ends in March 2023, I cancelled my renewal about 6 months ago , the credit card I used to purchase it, the credit card company was sold out to another company, I did not renew and move , so they cannot possibly charge me.

The not renewing reason was partly due to all the problems I read on this reddit , as to be honest the program itself has worked quite well, but they lost me because their business practices seem shady.

A company that makes both joining and leaving equally simple will make me more likely to use them.

I will just try another VPN service when it expires.

I had used activation code method for account creation, so I didn’t have to give them cc info.

Thanks

I just found it. it wasn’t in the terms I initially read on their site. I probably clicked the wrong one… I had to go back to my old emails from them to find the right link… jerks

What sucks is that the card was expired and they even warned me that I would lose my services if I did not update my card. But since it was the same number apparently the credit card company let this go through? I read that this happens.

This is what I thought as well… In their email response to my refund request they wanted me to reconsider cancelling (requesting the refund). They wanted me to keep it a bit longer to try it out… they wrote “Besides you have 30 days to ask for a refund from your purchase date, we would recommend using them to try our services out!”
Maybe it was copied from a generic refund email template? Regardless, I got the refund.

Since Nord has not explained to the customers why they are doing this, we can only imagine their motivation behind doing it. I imagine this will lead to charges happening, and 2+ weeks going by until people notice that it happened, which then makes it that much more frustrating to get your money back refund if you were planning to cancel.

Oh crap, here I was thinking expired card would protect me at auto-renewal.

What sucks is that the card was expired and they even warned me that I would lose my services if I did not update my card.

Obviously if someone has an expired card on a service it should not be charged. If the customer wanted the service - they would update the card. Those warnings only function to further mislead people into thinking they wont be charged. It is such a shady dirty business practice to do to people.

Must be nice lol, they auto renewed me two weeks before my current term is set to expire and they are REFUSING to refund. Such shady ass business practices.

Since it is in the terms I assume I am shit out of luck getting any money back, right? Do people ever successfully get any money back from these guys?

When the card expires they usually send you a replacement card with the same account number but a different CVV and expiry date. So, since that new information was not provided to them, the credit card company should process a reversal if asked.

Go on their website, find the thing for ‘Live Chat’ support. Tell the bot you want to speak to a real person. Get that person to give you a refund, and let us know how it goes. You ARE within the 30 day money back guarantee period for this transaction.

That’s what I figure, but I may just get a privacy VCC and set the limit to $1 so it can’t process the transaction

I am awaiting the refund, thanks for your help! (see my update my original post).
