I currently have to sign into Microsoft Endpoint Security for work when working from home. I have to fly to France for 6 weeks which my job is aware of. Initially I was going to Germany since that is where my family is, but they told me that I am unable to due to visa requirements. I am not staying for the amount of time where you would need a Visa so I am a bit confused.
I was wondering since I am already in Europe, is it possible to Connect to VPN stating that I am in France but really be in Germany? I asked the folks at IT but they told me that I wouldn’t be able to get any work done since the system would run very slow.
any advice is appreciated. I will probably end up scrapping the idea to avoid losing my job but if there is a will there is a way.
Possible? Yes. Good idea? Probably not if you’re asking these questions. With enough experience and caution, it can be done, but it’s far from foolproof, particularly if IT is scrutinizing with any care.
You cannot install another a VPN on the company laptop.
You could look into hardware VPN routers and set-up a VPN at home. But this isn’t very easy to do.
A residence visa is required if you intend to stay in Germany for more than 90 days for work
Why don’t you update your team that you’ll be in germany? Also 3 months (12 weeks?) is plenty and if you plan to stay there more then 6 weeks, then you have to apply for the visa or risk it for the biscuit.
I keep telling you guys … passportbrovpn.com solves this problem. Come off the cash and HR and IT isn’t worried because they don’t even know you’re gone.
Remember sneaking out the window to go to a party at 16? This is that, except you definitely know you’re getting laid at the party
Yes, it’s possible and I’m already on it.
for this you’ll need two things:
Portable router with VPN support (I purchased GL.inet Shadow from Aliexpress for about 20€).
VPN server (I’ll be using Raspberry Pi Zero 2W - 25€ for creating server in my home country in your case France) or can also try to use some cloud hosting services for VPN server.
I’ll also recommend to use Wireguard instead of openvpn for your VPN server.
P.S: you don’t need to be tech savvy to do all this. Everything is available on YouTube.
I should have clarified. They approved for me to go to France. They did not approve for me to go to Germany claiming that I need a German citizenship to work in Germany for the 50 days but to my knowledge that isn’t true. The only way they would know that I am in Germany would be the Microsoft Endpoint VPN we have to sign into.
It is only aware because we are cool. they don’t have any real superiority in the company, I fully have no idea who’s in charge of the VPN and who pings where
